Sounds of Green & Blue
The Lunar Effect
I have to say, I typically don’t take to bands trying to recapture the sounds of the past, but although that is part of THE LUNAR EFFECT, it doesn’t encapsulate them. Their music is genuine, honest, and full of heart-felt emotions, and they perform it really the only way they know how…with charisma.
Battle Ballads
Týr
“Battle Ballads” feels like a serious inflection point, especially as they clear the quarter century mark. I trust the band will take a deep breath and recommit to the fray.
The Star
Wormwood
The entire album is just stunning. Track to track, minute by minute. “The Star” by WORMWOOD is one of my favorite albums of the year thus far. Highly recommended.
Flamekeeper
Flamekeeper
Even though this was touted as Black Metal album and it is on a Black Metal label, consider that a very loose definition. It has a lot of other elements in it, and Marco is not afraid to let listeners know his brand of music.
Geminian Arcana
Temple of the Beast
Mysticism and malignance abound throughout these five unnerving tracks. Join me as I dive into the depths of Blackthorn’s primitive ritual.
Deterioration
Grief God
Surprising Death Metal from Lithuania.
Scathed Gaping Misery
Trails of Anguish

Genocidal Nemesis
Opium Death
Exlpoding out of Chicagoland with old school death metal and their debut album Genocidal Nemesis
Untouched by Fire
Arð
The burden it carries reminds me of a grieving widow visiting her love’s gravesite as leaves fall from the trees in late fall. She visits only once a week now, where it used to be every day. No matter how much time passes, the wound still feels fresh. But within the hurt, she finds solace in something greater out there, that you can’t see, but can just feel. For me, it’s an album that highlights the duality and complexity of emotions and the human spirit.
Witchburner
Earthblood
This is a Sludge/Doom Metal album with a lot of passion, fire, and energy. First, they smear the back onto your face and body, and then they rub it in, until it reaches your bones. By the time the EP is over, you emerge as a one-man killing machine.
Vragvmesiton
SRD
The structure and weight of the album might be its greatest strength, along with the vocals. But, it’s the confidence of the band that strikes me most. They create a torturous landscape that you don’t even want to think about, much less set foot in. The entire time you are listening, however, it hypnotizes you into taking one step closer, and then another, until you are there, swallowed by flames.

Hopium
Kingcrow
The album just failed to excite me, plain and simple. Every song was very melancholy, and that stood out even over some Progressive elements. For me, it was the vocal style that kept things from really progressing. Diego has a tender voice with great control, but nearly every song was sung in the same range. It might have been the band’s failure to convince me that led to my perceived downfall.
Voices Beneath The Rubble
Drift Into Black
All in all, DRIFT INTO BLACK have outdone themselves with “Voices Beneath The Rubble.” With every album, I feel they are getting closer and closer to releasing a masterpiece. This album has brought them to the edge and I can’t wait to take the plunge with them.
Seeds of Death
The Rottening
This band has potential into Death Metal, but needs to sharp its efforts...
Grand Canvas of the Aesthete
Suffer
This release shows a promising Death Metal band, indeed.
Demonology
Melodius Deite
Wow, what a great release of this Thailand Prog/Power Metal act!
The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams
Ingested
Creative and brutal, this UK-based band releases a bone-crushing full-length!
Dark Sky Sanctuary
Freeways
Wow, what a good release of thse heairs of NWOBHM/Hard Rock!
Visions of the Nightside
Daemoniac
A good Old School Death Metal release in Swedish way.
Versets Noirs
Acod
ACOD’s real talent is how adept they are at using all the tools and techniques at their disposal to build an immersive experience without laying anything on too thick, crafting an album that is accessible yet never dull.
Dance of the Undesirables
Voidgazer
The best part of the album was the fanciful and calculated guitar work. In today’s world, the ubiquitous “riff” has all but disappeared, but VOIDGAZER reminds you that not only it is alive, but it is also continuous. The twin guitar architects spew forth a blazing approach to their craft, and is sets the tone for the album with confidence and power.

Fatally Misguided
Swelling Repulsion
"Fatally Misguided" sells an excitement about what this band could become in later outings.
Memoria Viva
White Stones
There is no doubt that this is a unique album, even in considering the annals of Progressive music. Some critics might even argue that it suffers from a lack of cohesion, but I think the diversity of the album is its greatest strength.
Devotion
Hour of Penance
From Rome with Technical Brutal Death Metal that showcases the folly of misguided devotion with their latest album.
Skinwalker
The Eternal
There are definitely elements of the aforementioned bands in their sound, but what they have crafted here is deeply personal and all their own. The songs carry a heavy emotional impact and burden to the listener, but also make you yearn for more punishment.
Out In The Fields
Vendel
All in all, VENDEL’s “Out In The Fields,” is a fantastic album takes an old school approach but presents them in a modern enough way so it doesn’t feel like just another SABBATH/MAIDEN/PRIEST worship clone.
In the Cesspit of Divine Decay
Altar of Oblivion
All in all, ALTAR OF OBLIVION’s “In The Cesspit of Divine Decay” is an album that is as catchy as it is gripping. The band’s ability to combine doom and more traditional metal elements is impressive and engaging. A power release that is highly recommended.
Rise Of The Dead
Devastation

Presence
Kick the Giant
Talk about feel-good and energetic songs, this album is bursting at the seams with them. You can ride these waves for weeks. Combine this with the band’s strong sense of musicianship and you have a recipe for success. Superb!
Nebulas of Self-Desecration
Uttertomb
An impressive ending for a truly impressive album. I’m blown away this is their debut and I hope they can grab hold of its success and use it to take their sound to the next level for their second album. I’ll definitely be waiting impatiently for it.
Dreadnought
Orecus
All in all, ORECUS’ “Dreadnought” is a fun album that is worth a few listens but it just didn’t stay with me for very long. It has been a banner year for death metal so with 2024 already delivering many great albums, it just doesn’t stand out enough to me personally.
Symphony of Cerberus
EnChanTya
“Symphony of Cerberus” is a brilliant standalone album which is distinct from its sister “Cerberus” and yet still shares tendrils of common DNA.
Kydoimos (Κυδοιμος)
Kawir
With “Kydoimos” (Κυδοιμος), KAWIR maintain their mantle as Greek Black Metal overlords.
