This was a fantastic, multi-dimensional album that utilized many of the traditional elements of the genre along with incorporating a fresh, modern edge to Black Metal. As I mentioned above, besides their strong musicianship, the best thing that the band does on the album is controlling the nuclear bomb that is about to explode in their hands and setting its course to their will.

A Frame of Mind

This was quite a moving listening experience. The album ebbed and flowed, a match with the themes mentioned in the beginning, and it gave me peace even though some of the themes were disruptive. My frame of mind on the album was one of deep contemplation.

The album resonate with a deep, brooding energy, gradually intensifying as if ancient forces are coming to life. Riffs build like tectonic shifts, heavy and deliberate, while the percussion thunders in the background, echoing the footsteps of something massive and unstoppable rising from the depths. As the album progresses, the intensity grows, reaching crescendos that feel like the giant shaking off centuries of silence. It’s a sound both majestic and ominous, one that lingers, leaving listeners in awe of the sheer scope and magnitude of this sonic journey. It’s the sound of something colossal stirring back to life, a testament to forces that are timeless and primal.

This isn’t just music—it’s an emotional journey through the darkest corners of the soul, where every shred of optimism has been extinguished. It’s a soundtrack for those moments when the world feels unbearably heavy, a reflection of the internal chaos that comes with hopelessness.

The album has very personal themes that reflect the shock in losing someone that you care deeply about, yet in some ways, you could already see the ending all painted out for you. But it doesn’t make the sting any less painful. You could clearly hear that pain reflected in the music. It is angry and raging, but very well controlled, and although it offered a variety of influences, the central theme was torture for me…the torture that comes with loss.

All in all, MORAL PUTREFACTION’s self-titled debut is very strong and it will be interesting to see what the band comes up with next. Fans of cold-as-a-grave death metal will find much here to enjoy but it’s dynamic enough to align with a lot of different tastes.
