III: Non Sequitur
Weltschmerz
The essence of what Black Metal is can be found on this release.
The Gates of Slumber
The Gates of Slumber
If you're a die-hard Doom Metal maniac, this release is surely what you're looking for.
At Death’s Gate
Slechtvalk
Black Metal for the masses!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hierarchy (Reissue)
Rivers of Nihil
This is the opportunity for the fans to find the first release of these guys.
Coda
Rifftera
This surprising EP is really GREAT!!! 🤘🏻 🤘🏻 🤘🏻
The Dead Don’t Die
Dominum
This German quartet is really surprising with such mix of Power Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal with traces of modern tendencies.
For I Am Your Death
Bloodmoon Eclipse
Unfortunately, much of this album falls into the droning noise category for me. There were few discernable riffs, and the vocals were delivered in much of the same manner from song to song. This wasn’t a total loss, but it wasn’t very memorable either.
The Cycles of Suffering
Burial Oath
This was a solid album that pushed notes of punishment with notes of hopelessness in equal doses. It is a traditional album in the sense of the origins of the genre, but it also had modern elements.
Madness Malformed
Recidivist
Unapologetic raw death meatal from SLC
The Somnifier
Vessel
This was an enjoyable album, and I found it to have a gritty mix of some harder songs, and some more lighthearted ones that are still tinged with that depressions sense of evergrey.
Adoration of the Abyssal Trespasser
Trollcave
One of the reasons that the music is so slow is because it allows the pain to soak in. At first, it feels like a pinch, but later, it grows into a dull ache that just gets worse. Eventually, the pain is near crippling, and there is no cure in sight. You are diagnosed with chronic pain, and it hits you…you are going to feel like this for the rest of your life.
Always Look Up
Van Zant
The lyrical content of “Always Look Up” makes it very clear about what has happened with the VAN ZANT brothers in their musical as well as family lives. They are all written and sung in plain English, without mincing words or intentions. What it boils down to is that after some 20 years of chasing their dreams they found that it was time to return to the beliefs they had before that time.
Restless Fight
Sunstorm
You would think that I have a membership for reviewing albums where Ronnie Romero is the singer. But I haven’t, it just turns out that he is singing on a lot of albums that I consider interesting.
Litanie
Ozora
After extensively listening to “Litanie” I can only say that I am impressed with the OZORA and their musicality. Especially in the heavier department they are a force to be reckoned with.
…As Nightmares Gorged The Earth
Deadly Magic
If there is one real criticism that I can relate to when it comes to DEADLYU MAGIC it is that I feel that “…As Nightmares Gorged The Earth” is way, way too short for me. I would have loved at least 40 minutes more.
Withering Tides
Axetasy
This is a good Speed/Thrash Metal album. When it comes to AXETASY I can’t just name those two musical styles separate, as they are interwoven in such a way in every song that it is almost impossible to not see them as a Siamese twin.
Pandaemonium
Apocalypse
APOCALYPSE wants to mix Black, Death and Epic Metal and try to sound different on every album. Whether he has done that or not is not for me to say, as “Pandaemonium” is the first time I ever listened to APOCALYPSE.
Black Clouds Over The World
Gates Open
A powerful duo is back with their sound of old school melodic death tinged in industrial metal from Finland
Natt til ende
Djevel
DJEVEL
’s “
Natt til ende
,” is an impressively bleak album that is just as engaging with its atmospheric side. This album will please fans of more straightforward blackened tendencies as well as people who want a little more depth to their black metal.
Pereptual Intercourse
Putrid Vomit Christ
All in all,
PUTRID VOMIT CHRIST
’s “
Perpetual Inercourse
,” is a very strong early release from a band that I hope I hear more from.
Enchantress
The Pale Horses
Good Stoner Metal.
To Lay Siege and Conquer
Blasphemous
I can’t say “To Lay Siege and Conquer” is a terribly inventive album, but it is consistent. If you like your Blackened Death Metal with no spoiler influences like Symph or Atmospheric, this album might be your poison.
Blood Worship Extremism
Nigrum
“Blood Worship Extremism” delivers exactly what it promises: blood worship extremism—all wrapped up in lo-fi, brutal FW Black Metal.
Sad Plight of Lucifer
Konkhra
KONKHRA is a death metal band from Denmark, who formed in 1990. Somehow, I have […]
Fœhn
Unholdun
All in all, UNHOLDUN’s “Fœhn,” is a solid if unremarkable album. It provides an entertaining 42 minutes of bleak, frozen black metal but after the ride is over, there isn’t much reason for a return trip.
Psalmus Mortis
Retromorphosis
One thing that is immediately noticeable about the album is the fact that it is steeped in the deep traditions of the genre, but it refuses to remain there. They band uses a modern approach to the music, and their technical mastery is strong. For me, it’s model of how modern Death Metal bands should be.
Utopia
Silent Winter
Power Metal galore.
Oceans
Talia Hoit
The best part about the album is Talia’s voice. It is gentle, strong when it needs to be, and she has a near perfect pitch. I also like the concept that the album is centered around. Some areas of constructive criticism center mostly around the overuse of this style of music. It has been done so many times that in today’s market, you need to change whatever pieces you can to keep it sounding original. In this case, it is just overly formulated…almost a “symphonic metal by the numbers” type of sound.
Descent Into Lunacy
Cryptorium
“Descent Into Lunacy” is an old school Death Metal hammering, direct, aggressive, brutal, and bone-chilling
Pathways
Serpent Fire
“Pathways” is a melodic delivery of dynamic and versatile guitar riffs and solos, as well as prominent keyboards offering a solid melodic framework
Grand Cosmic Funeral
Thy Legion
This was an excellent album, that combined the might and power of blackened Death Metal with enough somber tones to bury even the brightest soul. Fans of the band will like their commitment to their craft, and they will no doubt win over some new fans with this horrid and hopeless sound.
Scorched Earth
Harakiri For The Sky
Few albums manage to straddle the fragile line between hope and despair with such poignant grace as this one. It pulls listeners into a world where light and darkness collide in a breathtaking dance, while it feels like standing on the precipice of a storm—where the winds of optimism fight against the inevitable weight of encroaching doom. This looming sense of doom never overpowers, but rather serves as a stark reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is a flicker of light worth fighting for. This is an album that demands to be felt as much as it is heard, a cathartic journey for anyone standing on the edge of their own abyss.
The Eleventh Hour
No Favors
No Favors are a UK band from Stoke, which is close to the city […]
In Service of the Dead
Sentient Horror
Without reinventing Death Metal, these guys created a very good release.
Hail To The King
Voodoo Circle
From Germany Voodoo Circle bring us studio album number seven “Hail To The King”. […]
Malignancy
Onslaught Kommand
If you love extreme music at its most natural form, the Death/Grindcore work of this Chilean quartet is for you.
