Second Dawn

Capricorn Rising
Thirteen Goats
THIRTEEN GOATS “Capricorn Rising” is a unique Extreme Metal Rock Opera blending Thrash, Death, Grind, and Heavy Metal as it follows Shepard the goat-skull wearing Antichrist, on a mission to overthrow humanity. Lyrics are dark and intense, with violent imagery and apocalyptic themes. This album displays the band’s impressive technical skills and genre pushing creativity. I would definitely recommend anyone to check this album out, as with its deft blending of so many styles, everyone can find a piece they like about this band.
Blood on Water
Ruby Dawn
The interplay between melancholy and the album’s character creates an immersive listening experience that feels deeply personal. There’s a sense that the band has poured every ounce of their emotion into the songs, giving the music a soul that lingers long after the final track fades. It’s an album that invites you to sit with your feelings, to embrace the melancholy, and to find strength in the richness of its character.

Incineration Day
Thunraz
This was a decent album, just not something that stood out much for me. It sounded pretty much like any other relatively amateur Death Metal album would sound.
Second Wound
Ploughshare
This album plunges headfirst into the heart of blackness and darkness, evoking the suffocating depths of the abyss. The music mirrors the vast emptiness and relentless weight of something unfathomably deep, while the guitars churn with a sense of foreboding, like black waves crashing against unseen shores. The drums pound with the steady rhythm of inevitable descent, and he atmosphere throughout the album is thick with dread—there are no glimmers of light, no respite from the enveloping darkness. Vocals emerge as distant, tortured cries, adding to the overwhelming sense of isolation, and it makes the listener feel trapped in a place where time and reality have no meaning.
Incineration Victory
Grave Heresy
GRAVE HERESY
is a Swedish death metal outfit that emerged onto the scene in 1996, characterized by rapid-fire rhythms, powerful guitar riffs, and aggressive vocals. Their latest album,
"Incineration Victory,"
showcases their evolution while staying true to their roots, reflecting a relentless energy and commitment to the genre. The album begins with
"Sarmat Dawn,"
featuring a distorted voice announcing impending destruction, setting a surreal tone for the brutality that follows. Tracks like
"Attenuating The Flesh Threshold"
and
"Christ Impermanence"
deliver pure chaos, with relentless speed and aggressive instrumentation that leaves listeners breathless. The guitar work is phenomenal, especially in
"Hexakosioihexekontahexaphilic Conquest,"
where ritualistic elements enhance the furious pace. In contrast, the title track,
"Incineration Victory,"
plunges into deeper emotional territory, creating an atmosphere of profound despair while maintaining the intensity that defines the album.
GRAVE HERESY
has crafted an extraordinary experience with
"Incineration Victory,"
blending brutality with thoughtful exploration, compelling listeners to delve deeper into the flames of their sound.
You And Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over
Necronomicon Ex Mortis
NECRONOMICON EX MORTIS
’
"You And Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over"
is a horror-fueled metal EP that skillfully blends aggressive riffs, vivid storytelling, and grim atmospheres. From the apocalyptic foresight of
"The Dead Zone"
to the chaotic resurrection in
"Jason Lives"
, each track dives deep into iconic horror themes with intensity and creativity. The band balances brutal instrumentation with dark humor, particularly in
"Leprechaun
's" grotesque fun, while
"My Bloody Valentine"
and
"In The Mouth Of Madness"
plunge into psychological and cosmic terror. Paired with cover art depicting a carnivorous plant feeding on industrial pollution, the EP reflects humanity’s self-inflicted doom, thriving on the decay of destruction. It's a solid, enjoyable release for fans of horror and heavy metal alike.

Blessing Of Despair
Devenial Verdict
DEVENIAL VERDICT deliver a very strongalbum. “Blessing Of Despair” is a perfect symbiosis of several Death Metal subgenres, predominantly progressive Death, a doom-laden Death Metal, and some Deathcore elements
The Hunting Party
Blind Ego
This album stands as a testament to the power of music crafted with both integrity and substance. The songwriting is rich, full of layers that reflect an unwavering commitment to artistic honesty. Each riff, melody, and vocal line is carefully constructed, with no wasted moments or empty gestures. There is a depth here that can’t be manufactured—each song tells a story, delivering an experience that is not just heard but felt. The lyrics, too, are marked by introspection and sincerity, reflecting a band that has something real to say and refuses to compromise on their vision. This is a collection of music that speaks to the core, leaving a lasting impact long after the final note fades.
The Duality of Decapitation and Wisdom
Veilburner
“The Duality of Decapitation and Wisdom,” is as fresh and unique as it is alien and wild. The twisted compositions only get better as the album is played more and more. This is a trip down a rabbit hole that I'll happily get lost in.
Le déclin
Ataraxie
ATARAXIE
's “
Le déclin
” is the band taking its next logical steps while embracing what makes them so damn good in the first place. This album harnesses the power of doom with layers upon layers that makes it as engaging as it is cavernous.

The Imperious Horizon
Winterfylleth
The mix of instruments on the album was nearly perfect, pairing guitars with keyboards and others. There was a familiar sound here, but also one that forced you out of your comfort zone a bit. More of the latter would have been welcomed, but it is still and excellent album done at the hands of experienced musicians.

At The Sound Of The Heart
Whispering Void
WHISPERING VOID specializes in Folk-infused, Atmospheric sound—folk in the same way that Folk Horror is folk. We’re talking melodically Atmospheric and slightly sinister with soaring vocals underpinned by traditional instruments—e.g. bones and hides of once living animals plus acoustic flourishes of violins, cellos, etc.
Warped Vision
Psychlona
“Warped Vision” is more mellow that PSYCHLONA’s previous releases, leaning more into Psych than the Stoner groove. It shows a certain level of maturity and, when needed, well enough grit.
Guardians Of The Flame (Reissue)
Virgin Steele
I have also reviewed their debut album “Virgin Steele I”, and the leap forward from that one is remarkable. Not that they have improved so much in the quality department, as that was already okay on that one, but VIRGIN STEELE has been able to filter down all the angels they were aiming for on that one and brought it down to a few.
Virgin Steele I (Reissue)
Virgin Steele
If you wish to know, this sounds more like a compilation album than a VIRGIN STEELE album. Why is that so? Well, this really is a debut album, and the band hadn’t decided on a definite musical direction yet. You will hear just about anything, from AOR and Glam Metal to Power Metal to US Metal and Heavy Metal.
Heartageddon
Wake The Nations
There were some really nice cuts here, but there were more inconsistent ones, and even too many filler songs. 13 is a lot, and it’s hard to create that many and keep them all memorable. Many of the songs were also just too thin, and although the production was clear, they could have been beefed up more.

Death Devil Magick
Servant
This was a fantastic, multi-dimensional album that utilized many of the traditional elements of the genre along with incorporating a fresh, modern edge to Black Metal. As I mentioned above, besides their strong musicianship, the best thing that the band does on the album is controlling the nuclear bomb that is about to explode in their hands and setting its course to their will.
A Frame of Mind
Kalandra
This was quite a moving listening experience. The album ebbed and flowed, a match with the themes mentioned in the beginning, and it gave me peace even though some of the themes were disruptive. My frame of mind on the album was one of deep contemplation.
No Serpents, No Saviors
Orme
The album resonate with a deep, brooding energy, gradually intensifying as if ancient forces are coming to life. Riffs build like tectonic shifts, heavy and deliberate, while the percussion thunders in the background, echoing the footsteps of something massive and unstoppable rising from the depths. As the album progresses, the intensity grows, reaching crescendos that feel like the giant shaking off centuries of silence. It’s a sound both majestic and ominous, one that lingers, leaving listeners in awe of the sheer scope and magnitude of this sonic journey. It’s the sound of something colossal stirring back to life, a testament to forces that are timeless and primal.
Solus (Igne Natura Renovator Integra)
Hammerfilosofi
This album was promising at times, and puzzling at others. There were some good songs, and some inconsistent ones a well. It just failed to leave an indelible mark on me.
Fonds de Terroir
Hyver
In my experience, many French bands seem to elevate the music in a specific genre. They are usually very creative. However, in the instance of this four track album, besides some energy in the music, is just isn’t very original.
Scavenger
Codespeaker
This album plunges deep into the abyss of despair to a landscape where light and hope have long since vanished. Every note feels drenched in sorrow. The pacing is deliberate, almost suffocating, as if time itself has been stretched thin. The atmosphere is thick with emotional weight, creating a listening experience that is bleak, visceral, and all-consuming. This isn’t just music—it’s an emotional journey through the darkest corners of the soul, where every shred of optimism has been extinguished. It’s a soundtrack for those moments when the world feels unbearably heavy, a reflection of the internal chaos that comes with hopelessness.
Turn of the Tide
Infern
INFERN
'S "
Turn of the Tide
" is a intense groove fest that will provide many hours of nonstop headbanging because it’s well worth visiting over and over. As far as death metal goes, this one has already fought its way near to the top of the putrid pile for me as we approach the end of the year.
