Feel The Steel
Ice War
Jo Steel from Ottawa Canada brings us his seventh release “Feel The Steel”. With 6 […]
An Age Undreamed Of…
The Cimmerian
This album was as much of a story as it was music, and the factored the themes mentioned above into their compositions. Their recipe of Doom, Sludge, Death and Black Metal results in a stew that is dark, thick, hearty, and even a little bitter.
Bergart
Nordein
This was a good listening experience for me, and I can appreciate the band’s simple approach to their music. Without traditional singing (many of the vocal parts were hummed), they had to work a little harder at creating the tale with instruments, and they reflected the part of you that feels torn between the dichotomy of self, and nature, existing at the same time.
Post Apocalyptic Depression
Mantar
Although they really aren’t presenting anything new with the style of the album, it’s pure blood, sweat and tears, gritty Rock N Roll, with a touch of Black Metal, and they present it confidently and with a big middle finger extended to anyone and everyone. The production is perfect for their brand as well.
Give Us the Moon
The Night Flight Orchestra
Even not as good as some past releases of the band, it's still an excellent album!
Titans
Manntra
This Folk Metal release can be pointing to new musical possibilities for the genre. Hear to it!
Balls to the Wall Reloaded
Dirkschneider
Liking it or not, this remake for this old Heavy Metal classic album is really excellent!
The World Was Never Enough
Days Of Jupiter
After years without new releases, the Swedish Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Lords are back with an excellent full-length!
Challenger
Utility Provider
A surprising Progressive Metal release from these Canadians killers!
Purulence Gushing from the Coffin
Stenched
A good Death Metal release of a band that can do way better than this.
The Eleventh Hour
No Favors
Wow, what great Hard 'n' Heavy release in the vein of NWOBHM's Hard Rock bands!
Gobischkevrot
Goblin Hovel
A good release of this Folk Metal act that needs to sharp a bit more its music.
Crossed the Line
Disoriented
A very good first album from this Grrove Metal act from Greece.
Opacity
AnomiC
A surprising Thrash/Death Metal release from this German act!
The Sleeping Dead
Sleepbomb
From their EPK, “SLEEPBOMBis a San Francisco-based psychedelic doom project focused on full, original scores […]
Contempt For Life
The Machinist
This was a crushingly heavy album that took no prisoners. The pacing was often frantic, and the sheer amount of notes that they band was able to squeeze into the compositions was amazing. At times, some of the chaos was broken with melodies, but they were often short lived, and blotted out by the weight of the album. The musicianship here was nearly impeccable as well.
In Flight
Time Rift
Good old Hard Rock with a psychedelic touch.
The Alien Machine
AntiMozdeBeast
This was a very personal album seen through the lens of one composer, and it challenges the very notion of what music even is. Although some of it is more like background ambiance, it did make me feel a peculiar way, which although is hard to describe, is the very point of music in the first place.
Fra Li Monti Sibillini
Hesperia
this album definitely reaches too far and too often for ideas that don't quite meld into the songs very well. I'm going to give it a four but I could understand anyone giving it an extra point or two either way but it's just not working for me.
Threnodies to Eternal Despair
Infested Angel
All in all,
INFESTED ANGEL
’S “
Threnodies to Eternal Despair
,” is an early year surprise for me and a very solid debut. I will definitely be looking forward to what else they can do!
Exempting Reality
Cerebral Hemorrhage
Cerebral Hemorrhage - Exempting Reality, a force to be reckoned with and a forgotten classic coming back to haunt and daunt the non believers.
Opaque Fixation
Primal Code
Primal Code - Opaque Fixation, a relentless beating of stomping drums and a doomy vibe to raise hell in the pit.
Sinking Into Filth
Reckless Manslaughter
A disgusting display of what German death has to offer
Trost
Danefae
This was an excellent album, shrouded in mystery at times, and wide open for the taking at others. It’s the way that these two feelings are blended that make the album so well balanced, and the key to their sound is the songwriting and musicianship. Both are outstanding.
Into the Great Unknown
Starchaser
A soft kind of heavy.
Incineration Of The Pious
Wretched Fate
“Incineration Of The Pious” is punishing and evil, driven by the relentless chainsaw sound of the guitars
Toymaker
Medusian
“Toymaker” is symphonic Death Metal with melodic Metal elements. The sound is epic with grim melodies and prominent orchestral arrangements
Crossfire
Storace
Marc Storace releases the second solo album “Crossfire” through Frontiers Music, the follow up to […]
Shine
Mystery Moon
Kaiserslautern based guitarist and songwriter Markus Pfeffer (Lazurus Dream & Atlantis Drive) actually only wanted […]
The Square
Seven Kingdoms
The Square starts off as a ripper, loses some traction midway, gets back on course, and then runs into a wall of 80’s sentimentality. To be fair, four of the five tracks are very, very good, pretty much making the EP well worth the price of admittance.
Trümmerfestung
Jarl
JARL does not disappoint with Trümmerfestung. Solid 8’s all the way around for this hammer blow of ruthless Black Metal.
Antipole
Norilsk
I like the approach that the band took to expand upon traditional sounds of the genre. The moments of melody, for example, are places at just the right time, to lift up your spirit when it seems to be at its lowest point. But that hardened sense of Doom still heavily permeates the album.
Pylon Cult
Praetorian
This was an excellent album, and the band’s mashup of several styles is part of a modern movement in that direction. The blackened elements keep the aggression ever-present, and the sludgy elements add a layer of weight that is as sturdy as concrete. By the end, I was covered in a thick, black filth.
Gehenna
Blazemth
This album wasn’t a total loss, but the band has to find a way to put some distance between them and other bands in the genre. Black Metal’s boundaries are endless, but they chose to stay within specific confines.
From Origin To Decay
Maat
With a torrent of technical brutal Death from Germany comes an unapologetic display of esoterica.
Antinomian Asceticism
Barshasketh
This music isn’t for the faint at heart. Because once you open the book, its power and secrets come into you. The moment you allow one to enter, all of the others get a free pass. You have to ask yourself, are you able to handle this much power? Save for a few special people, all the rest will fail answering this question. This album was as black as Black Metal gets.
