Carnage Slaughter And Death
Zombified

The Zombie reign has come to take the world by storm, spreading the disease, eating the flesh of those dead by famine, feasting upon the blood of the young breeding them to kill their own. Death has its way with being grotesque but we can all ask ourselves what if there is truth in all those B movies or modern day Zombie films. Would it start from a scattering disease or from a minor plague that might turn upon its creators? It might be upon us to stop it but will we be able to. Only time will tell. For now we have blood spilling Death Metal with sharp edged splinters of Crust Punk / Grindcore to settle with, painfully grinding with relentless brutality. This time it is from the guts of the Swedish group ZOMBIFIED, reshaping a dying world burning down in flames. "Carnage Slaughter And Death", via Cyclone Empire, is the band's second album and another display of nastiness, horrid vision of mutilations and distorted visions of a bleak future. The album has its moments where I nearly exploded, positively, from the gushing destructives and utter ferocity of the music, but then everything began sounding rather common, sometimes even a bit dreary.
As on most releases from the same kind of vein, ZOMBIFIED are the fine silhouette, a complete picture of filth, rawness, dirtiness with an unholy perception. It starts with their sound production that followed the characteristics of the dirty Crust / Hardcore, think about old VENOM, HELLHAMMER / CELTIC FROST, ASPHYX or THE ACCUSED sound decorations, yet with a modern setting, and of course continues with the musical direction that mashed Death Metal al'a GRAVE, old DISMEMBER, VOMITORY, old ENTOMBED and CENTINEX along with the nimbleness of Crust / Punk / Hardcore crossing swords with older figures as HELLBASTARD and AMEBIX among others. It has been quite a singularity suffusing those two genres together, and it brought a few nice results. However in the case of this release, it started well and began to sink gradually right from the halfway.
ZOMBIFIED has been playing some tough riffing, whether fast paced of mid tempo, pretty simple actually to grasp, mainly relying on full throttle speeding machine of the skins while only often lowering the gears in order to let go of some mid tempo chunks of meats. I expected the vocals to be something in the area of SUFFOCATION or BOLT THROWER but I found the vocal line to be rather clear and understandable. I might say that the vocalist seemed to me like the band's power card all throughout the albums. Sure I am a sucker for riffs but over time it sounded more or less the same to me, yet I can't really say that I wasn't impressed from time to time. There were no melodies at all or even substantial hints, or solos god forbid, as it is not the genre's way even though Death Metal has a saying or two with melodic features. "Carnage Slaughter And Death" and "Endless Days Of Wrath" slayed without mercy, like switchblade knife right through the skull, stabbing numerous of times without resting. These two monsters were the best of this blow off some steam release. I enjoyed the energies, the riffing, rhythms, that endless run, on the move like a wild cat or a butchering army of flesh grinding zombies. Yet, and this is the end of this chapter for me, this album starts wearing off after "Clenched Fist Vengeance", the last promising track that made a difference. Decomposition of the music or not, I like this band's direction but it lacks a bit more zing to it in order to keep it alive, or maybe more dead.
