Zombie Eater

This was a delightfully gooey album that had a thick, dark groove for months…even years. The riffs were covered in soot, and you come out soiled and defiled in the end, but the smile on your face will last a lifetime.

On a quest for filthy groove, ZOMBIE EATER is a sludge trio from Helsinki. Their sticky riffs and drummer's growls turn even the darkest tables to a hazy carnival. After touring the underground in Finland and Germany since 2018, the band is finally presenting their debut album "Faces" released via Argonauta Records. Recorded live and raw with a finishing touch of James Plotkin, the album will manifest the modern sludge sound of acts like WEEDEATER and DOPETHRONE. If it serves, then it better be served. The album has eight songs, and "Fisherman's Friend" is first. The riff is fuzzy, the pace is slow, and laden with doom, and the vocals are filthy. It's sticky, sludgy, and so damn dark, but also something about it energizes me to get off my ass and break stuff.

"Toastmaster" is another grindingly slow moving song, where the strings on the guitars and bass reverberate like a metal gear clicking inside your head. With each turn, it hurts even worse. Seguing into "Corner," it's a fast mover that clocks in at under a minute. "Bottle Hymn" may even be filthier. It's like driving a '64 into a deep, dark swap in the underbelly of Louisiana, and sinking slowly from within the ride. First, you are covered in a thick, black ooze, and once it reaches your mouth, the real torture begins. It's a slow and torturous death. "Dank Ritual" is an apt descriptor of the song. It's like visiting that place deep in the forest that is covered in moss, dirt, and slithering things…the kinds you don't want crawling all over you but they do anyway,

"Midnight Mower" hears the slow, groovy sound continue onward. It's like a thread that runs in and around every song…an infectious groove that is as black as the night. I sort of feel like dancing, is that odd? "Spiritist" has more energy behind it. It's the kind that builds slowly until it's released, and this massive tsunami of force comes at you. "El Diablo" is a ZZ TOP cover, and I can't think of another band that is more fitting for them to cover. Their interpretation is just filthy. When they go low, they dip into the bowels of the earth. This was a delightfully gooey album that had a thick, dark groove for months…even years. The riffs were covered in soot, and you come out soiled and defiled in the end, but the smile on your face will last a lifetime.
