Zero Horizon - L.I.F.E. album cover

Released back in April of 2021 we have the debut album from Swedish metal act ZERO HORIZON with the album "L.I.F.E". The band like to break boundaries with genres and don't care about sticking to the one genre when written music as they prefer to mix it up with different styles. This album was also inspired by personal hardships and low points in life.

First up we have "Far From Earth", an instrumental which opens with a piano intro with some drumming which is really cool. Strings then follow and we are then shown a killer groove from the guitars and drums and a lead guitar line adding some melody. Great opener to set the tone for what's to come. Next song is "At The End" which creeps in from the start with a nice clean melody which then switches to heavy riffing. The vocals hit and we go into a really big sing along chorus. There is a lot of emotion in this song and the lead guitar work shines through. This is a great track and could be a radio hit.

After  that we have "How Could I Forget". Thisnone has a really nice melody which then carries over the a heavy section. Back to a quiet verse with the singer speaking to us about feeling lost. It then builds to a big chorus and a bridge that has so much feel to it. The vocals are great here and I really liked this song. Opening with some beautiful natural harmonics we have the song "I Know It Hurts". It builds to a big sound that hits and comes down again for the verse. Another big sing along chorus in this one and I really like the verses in this track. This song has a very Nu-Metal vibe and a really cool middle section with guitar solo's that lift the song up.

A song to check out is "I'm Alright" which starts with some light guitar work and almost cinematic with synths. The heavy then comes in and carries the melody as the song builds from the verse into a big chorus which is when we get our guest vocalist INANNA LEO who also sings the next verse. She has a softish voice which adds contrast to the harsh vocals. We also get an epic guitar solo that leads into a great breakdown.

With a very Metalcore style intro we have the song "Numb". This song has a great energy to it and the vocals show a lot of range with harsh to clean style singing. We get a big sound for the chorus and some killer grooves to get a crowd going. The riffs in the sections are great and fits well. This is one of the best songs on the album. Coming towards the end of the album and we have the title track "L.I.F.E". The song gives off an epic feel from its intro. Some genital strumming for the verse and a great vocal delivery. This is almost a heavy ballad type of song with some great guitar work, not over the top but effective. The lyrical theme deals with wanting to give up and feeling alone.

Last tune on the album and we have "Let You Go" with a piano playing right from the start with the vocals fitting nicely over it. We get some nice vocal harmonies for the chorus with a beautiful piano melody. Drums then come in and then we also get a guitar but it's very subtle. This is a powerful song to close the album with. From listening to "L.I.F.E" you can hear that the vocals show a lot of range to them. ZERO HORIZON are heavy but very melodic at the same time. There are lots of emotion in each song and the album really brings you on a journey with its many styles and lyrics about dealing with personal issues and traumas but the choruses have a way of adding hopefullness to it. I really enjoyed this album.
