Sweden's Year of the Goat is a band that you were expecting one thing, and then got something totally different.  I was expecting some rather thundering and totally blasphemous Black Metal that would scare most Christians off - what was on this album was a true throwback to another time and headspace.

Mixing 70's Psychedelia with heavy doses of Black Sabbath not to mention Blue Oyster Cult, you cannot listen to this album without smiling.  Its 60's stoner style mixing with this odd feel of progressive vibes, with small traces of the heaviness we all require Year of the Goat hold no surprises, inspires none and creates nothing in the process, seemingly going anywhere.  Musically it builds and moves, but with no sense of what it is that they are trying to do... it is painful how it ends up gets boring so fast.

I am not going to pick a song, and just tell you that the songs seem to go together as one... and not in a good way.  Every track plods along like  a staggering drunk old man, looking for his misplaced car in pitch blackness of a alley. They seem to possess some hidden treasure of talent in a few small points on the album - yet none of this really comes out.  I love stoner type of music, but only when it is done good.  This is just a bad reproduction of Psychedelia - and nothing more here to say.

If they would take a little more of the heavier approach, like the earlier Black Sabbath stuff-  it just might help.  With the album like it is, The prog people, as well as old school metalheads might just as well steer away from this one... I would suggest getting Kylessa's newest album... use Year of the  Goat for something more suited to it - the disk makes a great coaster for your beer.
