V: Lamentations

Wytch Hazel

The album feels like a continuation, another chapter in their career and their pathway. It feels like a progression from ''IV: Sacrament'' yet you can see some elements from this album in this new opus. The story has not been finished and WYTCH HAZEL continue bringing their message through their music, transcending themes that are not for everyone yet not overdoing it no matter what.

WYTCH HAZEL hail from Lancaster, Lancashire, England and this is the fifth part of their magnum opus that began back in 2016. 9 years and already 5 parts of the story has been written and presented to the masses. The band has a unique look about them with their tunics , reminiscent of the Crusades mixed with a bit of Kaamelott. They bring upon some themes you do not usually hear about, Christianity, Spirituality, Glory and Truth, deeply rooted in Medieval Times. The band photo was striking and the look had me wondering what was going to be the overall vibe of this band, of this album, so let's start this journey together.

I usually frown upon anything that is a bit too religious or heavy on Christianity yet I don't really mind in this case, everyone has their beliefs and the way they live their lives. If it's not forced upon the listener and anyone out there, it's no something that is really something negative. Music is a media for everyone, I don't like it when it's just rammed down our throat and this is not the case, it feels natural for them to talk about it and their faith. Everyone has their right to their own beliefs and standards, their way to express it is their own and music a great way to do it.

WYTCH HAZEL definitely has this BLUE OYSTER CULT late seventies, early eighties feel about mixed with some WISHBONE ASH. Fuzzed out guitars and a very Progressive Rock feeling about their compositions. They are capable of balancing hard rock edge and prog-rock ambition of the '70s, complete with trademarked twin lead guitars bringing forth some much appreciated texture to their songs.

''The Citadel'' is a prime example of what they can offer, it feels like the old school British Prog Rock with some modern elements, blending it seamlessly.
