Hinterfragt

WUX, a rough Punk/Metal German Garage band, with the chops and skills of hardened veterans. Each track hits hard and fast, and each member's performance is raw and packed with energy. I can imagine seeing these guys in some dark alley pub that serves decent beer, even being the one to start a pit, even if I'm the only one. These guys dig right into the soul of music to make you want to headbang and throw all worry of personal injury out the window.
The first track starts with a welcoming rock riff for about half a minute before the band join in, moving through a few versions of the riff with a fill fade out like you'd hear from a live Pub Band. I adore music from other countries and in other languages, I just wish I knew what they were saying, I have searched for the lyrics but failed to find any. In the title track "Hinterfrat", Jens and gang sound like they're putting on a musical protest, trying to get across a point they're angry about, in a PENYWISE or BAD RELIGION vein. "Kennst Du Diese Tage" supports itself with a unique guitar line, which the rest of the band stomp around, stretching the concept of being in time with each other to near progressive realms. A crowd rousing chorus, with a lazy battle march feel to the riff, as if their channelling some Battle Metal influence from ENSEFERUM and FINTROLL.
"Idiot", where there's no prizes for what this song's about, yet despite the language barrier the vocalist conveys his presumed annoyance about someone. The song really shines in its construction; a solid Punk under-base, juxtaposed by a chord progression straight out of a Gothic Folk song. These guys would be a great choice for a band to play at a party, their high energy, underground punk roots shine in each track. In "Pulverfass", the vocalist really shines over a soundscape that balances between heavy riffs and melodic leads. "Rausgetreten Aus Dem Nest" features some NWOBHM influences, an anthem worthy track with a great solo over a pounding double bass line before the trio has you giving yourself whiplash with their playing, demanding you headbang. Through each track you can always tell it's these guys playing, not just their sound but their technique and experience is very unique, and presented honestly. "Blickkontakt" is the last track I'd draw your attention to. The stripped down punk style of these rebels is unassuming at first, but a closer inspection reveals a well thought out structure and catchy, intricate riffs that requires finesse to keep the groove going, especially in the pre-verse sections of this song.
A great album and a great band who I would love to see in some Pub or small venue soon. A heavy, underground punk band, who wear their influences on their sleeves and keep surprising the listener with great song writing and honest playing from all three members.
