These fascinating musicians began as a black metal band in the year of 2012 with two key members who were PHANTOMSLAUGHTER and WROTH SEPTENTRION together with a third member known as EQUIMANTHORN who joined at a much later stage. These two key members were a duo at first releasing two demos; THE DEEP DARK EARTH UNDERLIES ALL in 2014 and NIGHTS IN HELL in 2016. Then came their debut album titled EVOCATION OF THE BLACK MARSH in 2017 which certainly brought out the raw and naked tones of true black metal. Then the arrival of GLOOMLORD was a kickstarter for a change in 2019 as we began to hear the addition of doom and death metal also.
FOREVERGLADE continued with this change and transition from an evil and satanic black metal band to a whole new level in 2021 where there was more sustained but echo of doom/death metal all around. Now an EP has been presented to us with the title BLUENOTHING no doubt trying to keep the new sound alive. The EP begins with the title track "Bluenothing" which is an 11 minute composition opening with chimes then mellow but dense guitar picking as each note is clarified and echoing in the distance as it becomes more present in the track. Then cymbal hits come crashing in literally after half a minute as we hear glamorous guitar riffs as there is more to come in this track. Black metal vocals join in to give the track a sense of ominous and satanic rituals as there is a doom and gloom tone/atmosphere to the track.
The vocals have more depth and they prolong their reach for darker times as drums and guitar lead the narrative. The addition of bells gives the sense of gloominess with the whole demonic mix from vocals and guitar. Guitar becomes more vigorous and vocals vary as they aim high with screamer notes and devastation roars that are just as rich as the higher pitched screams. They also become more dominant as there is that creepy soundscape which is well supported by guitar and keys bringing the track to life. "Centuries Of Ooze II" rings with an organ sound like in a chapel or a graveyard being overlooked by the ring of the bell signaling this very intriguing track. Screamer vocals cues and says action on drums are accenting certain notes. The organ tone and vocal chants are so subtle but they add to the mix smoothly as guitar sets a short solo before a full band unison to close out the track.
"Invoking The Dragonmoon" has an ambient soundscape with ruffling harsh sound effects combined with keyboards and electric guitar as the mood is set with quiet vocal whispers in the background. The atmosphere is chilling to the bone, so cold and mysterious as the electric guitar changes the tone and feel to more thrilling or exciting passages of musicality and tone. "Shadowside Kingdom" has acoustic guitar and more startling soundscape effects as we hear the final track of this interesting EP as there is so much variety in terms of instrumentation and the production side. Electric guitar comes in the doom metal insomnia bickers and quarrels as drums pulsate with electric guitar using vibrato to show leadership. Vocals return to the somber depressing and satanic ways of expressing itself.
Drums are going to the extreme as they go absolutely berserk as there are lots of thrashing skins and sensational cymbal hits are spot on. Screamer vocals do well to allow drums to close out the EP with amp sounds at the very end. I very much enjoyed this album as it has so much character and does tell a story along the way with two tracks that are lively with full band unisons whereas the other two tracks are more calm yet clearly focused with articulation. Definitely check this band out and worship them if you like them enough because they are very special and worth a listen.
