June 4th 2021 will see Chilean Avant-Garde Metal act WOODEN VEINS release their debut studio album, titled "In Finitude," via powerhouse label The Vinyl Division, featuring former members of well-known Doom Metal acts like MOURNING SUN and MAR DE GRISES, the participants are by far no strangers to the scene. Spearheaded by Keyboardist Eduardo Poblete, he assembled the rest of the cast, and now present "In Finitude," which contains eight songs.

"Thin Shades" leads off the album. It begins with some melancholy tones and that feeling of impending doom. The clean vocals are dreamy, and some lead guitar notes help move it along. Drummer Alberto Atalah" keeps one hand on the cymbal for much of the song. Charming piano notes come in at the end. "Beyond Words" opens with a little more energy from the guitars, but the song sounds similar to the first track. although it does build to a nice crescendo towards the end. "Herradura (by the sea)" begins with some soft tones that are replaced fairly quickly with a similar sound as the first two tracks. The audible bass notes are nice, as is the center passage of ambient tones with soft piano notes. This song does present a little diversity, and that closing passage is strong with emotive qualities.

"Mirages" is a much longer song, clocking in at close to nine-minutes. It opens with a heavy and abrasive edge, but the melancholy, longing feelings come back into play. It takes an ambient pause around the half-way mark. The sound comes roaring back to the finish line. "The Veiled Curse" begins with some more subtle tones, and the dreamy elements are back. Guitars blast in, and they begin to build to a crescendo. "Invern" opens with more those ethereal elements. Spoken words really put a stamp on the thick, gloomy aspects of the song. The emotive quality of the song also comes through strong. It picks up towards the end and then slows to completion.

"Empty Arcs" features more of the spoken words and a bit of electronica. Though the song has a real longing quality to it, there isn't a lot of sonority. "In Finitude" closes the album. It's an eight-minute opus, that begins with more of those ambient passages. Guitars bust in, and audible bass notes. This might be the best song on the album. The song waxes and wanes several times throughout, and has some odd and unexpected chord progressions.  Overall, the album has potential. The Doomy elements come through strong, as do the ambient ones, and the vocals are pretty good, but the band needs to find a way to really put some distance between themselves and the other bands that are out there trying to do the same thing. The album mainly suffers from a lack of proper personality.
