Wino - Adrift album cover

If you are reading this wandering who is Wino: a) you are not a Metal fan, b) you are from another dimension. SAINT VITUS, SPIRIT CARAVAN, THE OBSESSED are just some of the bands that this legend has played/is playing for. But who am I talking to? I'm sure that you already know those things.

"Adrift" is the second solo album of Scott "Wino" Weinrich after 2009's "Punctuated Equilibrium". But this time we are dealing with a (semi) acoustic album, with some electric guitar solos here and there. The album is opening with the self-titled track "Adrift", a song that form the first notes enslaves your heart and soul. It is inevitable not to mention how easy Wino makes it seem heavy and captures all your senses with just one guitar and his voice. The album has a blues/southern sound and feeling...you can smell the cheap whiskey coming out from the speakers, so to speak. But even if the music is making your mind to travel, Wino's, lyrics, which always have something to say, hit you in the stomach with their meaning. But sometimes just the music makes you have that feeling, like in the instrumental "Suzanes Song". In this album you'll find two covers. One is "Iron Horse/Born To Lose" (what do you mean by who?) and "Shot In the Head" by SAVOY BROWN. Both of them are excellently performed by Wino. Especially in the MOTÖRHEAD cover the song, despite its "nudity", still has the heaviness the the original has.

Maybe some folks say that 42 minutes are too much for an acoustic album. Well they probably do not know how to enjoy music. I say, grab a bottle of your favorite whiskey, close the lights, leave the electricity of our beloved music aside and make yourself a favor and listen to "Adrift". Albums like this one make me realize that you don't need distortion and growling vocals to be heavy and at the same time sensitive and atmospheric.

Highlights: "Old And Alona", "Suzanes Song", "D-Bear", "Iron Horse/Born To Lose".
