WILD WITCH, Rockers hailing from Brazil, has re-released their debut demo through INFERNÖ Records "Burning Chains" in 2014. The band developed in 2006 and fulfilled their roster in 2011 as a Heavy Metal based band. The band plays many covers, but opted to leave those out of the demo. WILD WITCH have many influences that span across multiple decades including 70's and 80's with bands like JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON, IRON MAIDEN, and others. There is heavy influence of classic Rock 'n' roll, Hard Rock, and Heavy Metal scattered throughout the demo.
It is always nice to find artists that have female fronted bands. This one is no different. There is always a newness to a band's sound with the addition of female vocals, and when one is fronted by one, unconditionally, it makes for a new, revived kind of music. I love it and I love when the vocals are strong. Flav Scheidt has some pipes on her. As the demo played, I noticed a few things that make her vocals stand out a bit; they are riddled with her Brazilian accent, they are low enough to compliment the rest of the sound beautifully, but her transitions to a higher pitch is chunky.
The four track demo starts with "Trail of Bones". What a great way to start off the demo. I loved how it went right into the main guitar riffs, showing just how musically talented the guitarist in this group is. The bass line is also solid on this track. It's nice hearing impactful bass work. Track three, "Witchripper" is another song that is full force heavy metal with beautifully done guitar work. The vocals fall short on this track, but the music is more than good enough to make up for that.
The final track "Rock Me to the Limit" is a mix of likes and dislikes, but is the best track on the album. This is the classic Rock 'n' roll sound that I love. Again, this guitarist is brutal and deserves the praise he is receiving. The work here is incredible. It takes this track to the next level. The bass line is good, but not strong enough. I would have loved to have heard it more. Towards the end of the track there is a weird pause that adds nothing of value to the track. If anything, it takes away from the flow and the creativeness of it.
The production is marvelous. The vocals are threaded through the music instead of laid on top. The guitars are beautiful and the solos are pretty solid and completely 80's metal. The bass lines are good, but the drums feel a little off to the rest of the music. This 16 minute demo is a decent listen.
