Whyzdom - Blind? album cover

WHYZDOM is female fronted Philharmonic Metal band with huge orchestra and choir from France. The project was founded by the guitarist and orchestrator Vynce Leff in early 2007, first EP "Daughter Of The Night" was recorded in 2008 and one year ago 2009 their album"From The Brink Of Infinity". New album"Blind?" contains 11 songs was published in October 2012.

My favorite track is "Venom and Frustration". Hard & strong guitar riffs make this song alive nurtured with a great feel sharing a fine melodic chorus including the lyrics "Venom inside your blood, frustration in your soul", simply beautiful. There are strong elements of a PANTERA origin. Truly an interesting song. Xavier Corrrientes's bass lines seem to be in a Progressive Metal fashion that might indicate of a DREAM THEATER influence.Furthermore,at this very song is drums solo and bass solo - just perfect work. The voice of Elvyne Lorient is like balsam for the soul. She sings very nice following the power and melodic edge provided with Heavy Metal mixed with a symphonic orchestra. "Cassandra's Mirror", also on video, was very likeable with great melodies with heavy guitars and perfect working rhythmic section. The intro seems to contain several Folk elements. Again a great singing rhythm melodic pattern, fast paced drums with shifting signatures, and an amazing symphonic orchestra and choir.

Opening track of the album named "The Lighthouse" begins with a darkened atmosphere of mystery. Hard guitars will attack one's ears and straight down to the heart. Lorient once again shares an impeccable vocal performance with the backing orchestra along with strong sound of lead guitars & rhythm section. There is also a great guitar solo shifting speeds. Everything seems to be reminding of DIMMU BORGIR and THERION outputs when it comes to "Dancing With Lucifer", especially with the choir in the back blazing. Lorient's chanting, similar to Aya of UNSUN, of "goodbye love, goodbye family" made me goosebumps. The mystic atmosphere during the beautiful singing choir reminded me also of CORVUS CORAX. Heavy rhythm guitars, drums, bass and trumpets, violin contributed to the exalted mood as if the end of the world is right on the door step.

Another song, "On the Road to Babylon",begins with a choral singing, one might feel as if being in a church. This is a rather long track of over 8 minutes. Lorient's voice accompanied massive sounds of guitar and the rhythm section with symphonic background. The band's musicians show their huge experience thus performing with excellence issuing odd time signatures and interesting outputs. "Paper Princess" begins like ballad with an astounding and clear vocal presentation, the forthcoming of the impressive drumming, bass work and a fine piano playing. This is a very Heavy Metal oriented song, pumping hard. "The Spider" displays a great guitar solo by guitarist Regis Morin. A swarm made impression due to the bombastic rhythm guitars, clear vocals and bass production. On "The Wolves" there is a fairytale like symphonic orchestra. This song is yet another emphasis of how beautiful and warm voice Lorient has.It is a softer track in comparison to the others. Everyone who shares admiration for female vocals in the vein of LACUNA COIL or EVANESCENCE, will like WHYZDOM too. Nice sounds for the soul and mind are in "The Foreseer" commencing with a great intro with philharmonic orchestra, splendid vocal act, powerful rhythms of  Vynce Leff and Regis Morin and a profound rhythm section performance.

The longest track on the album is"Cathedral of the Damned", over 10 minutes to conclude this release. It's the highest level of music that this band made launching with a choir singing in Latin add to the sublime mood, what I can I say, I liked that. There seems to be several elements of different Metal subgenres making this one diverse. Indeed another great vocal performance integrated well with the backing vocals of the choir, drums and riffs equally great with adequate tempo changes throughout the song, a supreme 80s oriented guitar solo and divine keyboards by Marc Ruhlmann. This fairytale feature would probably indulge you to demand more, but every story has an end, gone with the wind rustling heralds...

Summing up, this is an epic album that lasts over 80 minutes, perfectly done. There is a fine mixture of sorts of Metal, from old school to contemporary subgenres. I'm impressed by the band's music and can't wait to listen new songs. Every song has its own scheme, other idea. You will never be bored by this album for sure from a band that seems to be pondering for the foremost level of music for their fans and listeners. During listening beautiful music your reality will change rapidly. Fans of NIGHTWISH, EPICA, THERION, WITHIN TEMPATION and for every heaviness devotee who wants to explore the inner beauty of this music.
