Australian WEREWOLVES play vicious, straightforward, no frills, blackened death metal in the vein of MARDUK, DARK FUNERAL, MORTICIAN, WATAIN and VADER on its debut full-length album "The Dead Are Screaming" (released April 24, 2020 via Prosthetic Records).

Yet another underground death metal supergroup/side project, featuring prominent musicians in the scene such as Dave Haley of PSYCROPTIC, Sam Bean of THE BERZERKER and THE ANTICHRIST IMPERIUM and Matt Wilcock of AKERCOCKE, THE BERZERKER and THE ANTICHRIST IMPERIURM, the musicianship and technical ability is highly fierce.

Self-dubbed as "blackened cavemen death metal," the trio from hell was formed rather rapidly in 2019, quickly followed by the writing, recording and mixing of "The Dead Are Screaming." Produced and mixed by Joe Haley, David's brother in PSYCROPTIC who has engineered numerous outputs including ABORTED, PSYCROPTIC and NERVECELL, the sound achieved within the 32-plus minute duration is raw and primitive. Also worth mentioning is the awesome cover art by Mitchell Nolte (ABORTED, JUDICATOR).

Album opener "Establish Dominance" does just that, by establishing dominance with furious blastbeats, filthy riffs and putrid, low-growled vocals, the band seamlessly switches back and forth between black metal to death metal at a moments notice. Tracks such as "Know Your Place" and "Gnaw Their Bones" contain relentless blasting in a standard brutal death metal way, while "Dogknotted" and "Showering Teeth" possess killer grooves with relentless black metal tremolo picking.

In the crowded death metal genre, so many bands get lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, WEREWOLVES have created something worthwhile with "The Dead Are Screaming" and hopefully this isn't just a "one and done" side project.
