We Are Harlot - We Are Harlot album cover

So here's something. Take the ex-vocalist from the Metalcore band ASKING ALEXANDRIA, let him form an 80s Hard Rock/early Metal band, and pick out the rest of the band. Well, you see after all that, you have this thing called WE ARE HARLOT, or just HARLOT for short. A lot of the Metal scene shook when Danny Worsnop left ASKING ALEXANDRIA, but it was to be expected; HARLOT are at the very least, two years in the making. They released their first official song, "Denial", in mid 2014 and have kept the fans in the dark ever since then. In early 2015, HARLOT announced that the album was coming this year, and Worsnop announced his departure from ASKING ALEXANDRIA. Now, after all that, here we are. The album is set, and everyone wants to know if the wait was worth it.

I like to talk about a couple songs, so I want to talk about the polar opposites of this album; a Rock ballad, and a song that sounds like it could have been an ASKING ALEXANDRIA song. Where to start though? "Flying Too Close To The Sun" sounds like a good spot. This song starts with a rockin' bass intro before the drums kick in, when the vocals start up its Worsnop yelling in a Thrashy tone in your ears. The chorus features his harsh vocals again, when the man screams in his sexy harsh "Reckless And Relentless" vocals "Flying Too Close to the Sun", although these vocals aren't there too often, they're definitely there and they definitely rock. Not to mention, there's a badass riff right after the chorus that makes you surprised what this song leads into. Now to talk about what this song leads into, "I Tried" is basically the definition of a Rock ballad. Slow, acoustic (grandpas) guitar, clean and lovely vocals and lyrics. The lyrics are beautiful and it's a nice pace for anyone who's a fan of ballads. Honestly, I don't like ballads, pretty much, ever; I hate "Home Sweet Home" with a passion, but the way this song plays out makes you keep your attention to it, and it's the definition of what a Rock ballad should be.

This is what you've all been waiting for; the new selftitled HARLOT album, out on Roadrunner Records, is what you want it to be. I had high expectations, and this album still blew me away; it's worth checking out, regardless of whether or not you're an ASKING ALEXANDRIA fan.<
