House Of Mirrors
Wayward Dawn

The depths of Scandinavia are a haven for the Extreme Metal subgenres. Enter centre stage WAYWARD DAWN, the four-piece Death Metal outfit have had a busy year. With the release of the single "Apathy" and the record "Haven Of Lies". However, the focus of today is the two-track single, "Hall Of Mirrors". The artwork for this release plays directly to the title, however with a stereotypically Death Metal twist on it.
The first track, "Further Down The Nest", is a breathless four-minute display of heavy, dense, dirty metal. The deep growls of Rasmus taking the focal point of the track. However, that is not to say that the rest of the members are not noteworthy. The subtle intricacies of the guitar built upon the solid foundations of bassist Kasper and the seemingly untiring rhythms of Lukas.
The titular "House Of Mirrors" continues exactly where the previous track had left off. With intensity and hair raisingly aggressive atmosphere. The dense wall of music assaults the listeners ears and when I close my eyes, I can see the lights on the stage and the crowds going mad for it, surely the sign of great music?! However, an eternal question... Is it a squeal or a ping I can hear within the guitar tracking?... Those who have seen the movie Rockstar will understand...
A strong release for WAYWARD DAWN, on the back of such a successful year I can only hope that this is a sign of what is to come for 2021. Jesus Christ. It's 2021....
