Sworn To The Dark

The Temple Of Watain decided to unleash its legions for one more time after four years. It seems that those four years of sleep, made the legions hungry for blood and perversion. Despite the long time period that we were waiting for this album, WATAIN did not disappoint us and delivered a work that will feed your most sick and blasphemous appetite. Enjoy...
WATAIN were formed in 1998 in Uppsala, Sweden, and are considered to be one of the best underground Black Metal bands out there (if not the best). They have been named after a song by VON (American Black Metal band). They have up to now released two full-length albums, with Sworn To The Dark being their third one, and their first one through Season Of Mist.
WATAIN has managed to earn the respect of the Black Metal scene with only two albums (I am not counting this one). This band has managed to stay faithful to the Black Metal philosophy and has also kept the Scandinavian Black Metal tradition alive. Regarding Sworn To The Dark, it is fast, it is furious, it is blasphemous, it is definitely pure Black Metal! WATAIN have probably found the divine Black Metal formula and keep on releasing great stuff! After I listened to Rabid Death's Curse (2000), their debut album, I thought they would never manage to create something better than that. Casus Luciferi (2003) was great, too, but it didn't have the dark and cold feeling of their debut. Even if four years had to pass in order to release their third studio album, WATAIN managed to make me think about what I said about their debut album for a second time. They hit back with a masterpiece with the best production they ever had! The sound is kicking ass regarding the underground Black Metal scene (and not only the underground scene)! The songs are incredible and they prove that WATAIN IS BY FAR THE BEST UNDERGROUND BLACK METAL BAND!!! We are talking about the best melodies WATAIN have ever composed! Everyone who knows this band already knows that we have to deal with the next big star of the Black Metal scene! The album is much heavier than everything this band has released in the past. The guitars are fucking heavier, the drummer seems more mature regarding both his technique and his playing in general, the voice is clearer (at last, the listener can understand the lyrics). The only objection I have regarding the sound is that the bass seems to be sacrificed for the heavy guitar sound. Anyway, that's not so important in order to reduce the quality of this incredible album that I hold in my hands.
I will say for one more time that WATAIN is the newest addition to the Black Metal pantheon and I really don't mind if someone has an objection with that. These guys prove their talent with every single thing they release! The rating you see below this paragraph is what a band that still kicks ass in the Black Metal scene deserves. You have to listen to this album to feel the dark and cold aura of WATAIN. All hail the dark lord!
