The final Battle

Warwolf

Maiden in Germany.

We are visiting Germany today to observe a pack of Metal wolves that are ready for battle. The band is WARWOLF and they are releasing their third full album called The Final Battle via Metalopolis Records. Despite being created around 2022, the band seems to be composed by well seasoned musicians as you can hear in the first track, the energetic “Eye Of The Storm”. I would classify their sound as Classic Metal as it can be. You can figure out their influences right away and bands like JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN come to mind. It is classic also in a sense of having 2 good guitar players dueling riffs and solos as you can hear in “Burning Skies” and the good “The Lycan Empire”. This last one has a beginning very similar to Wasted Years from MAIDEN. The themes will vary from the whimsical to the historical, highlighting battles and some folklore. WARWOLF has a solid foundation in drummer Holger Bloempott and bass player Florian Abegg that seems to have been graduated in the Steve Harris galloping bass school.

The band is also able to provide different moods in different songs as you can hear in “Fight The Invaders” that has a slower tempo and a memorable chorus. We go back to galloping with “A New Hope” and it makes me think that IRON was really a great influence in this band. I could swear I am listening to A Brave New World. Forget about JUDAS PRIEST. Well, great bands like these require a good guitar duo and WARWOLF certainly got it on Frank J. Noras and Peter Müller. Amazing solos plus the duo guitar riffing, sometimes with intercalating riffage, will make any classic Metal lover smile. The band gets a little out of the IRON shell with “Time Stands Still” that has a more Hard Rock vibe and a nice chorus as well. The songs of this album are really based on something you heard before in terms of riffs and general song structure if you are a metal fan.

Tracks like “Dark Emperor” and “Blood & Ice”, will make you go like,- Hey! This reminds me of IR…. We get closer to the end with some acoustic guitar dexterity and a more somber mood with “The Final Battle”. This track offers a nice softer approach to the storytelling with the big crescendo on the chorus with heavy guitars. The singer is Andreas von Lipinski and he has a powerful voice and a good range. He uses more the operatic style of singing and in some tracks you could swear you are hearing Bruce Dickinson singing. The album ends with the acoustic cry for peace in “The War Is Over”. I like the album overall and I think it is worth exploring. However, I also believe it worth exploring adding a little more personal touch in the songs to make it sound different from the old classic bands. Specially the one that starts with an I.
