Funeral-Doom-Sludgers WALK THROUGH FIRE (2007) make music that hurts. The band is based from the lovely island of Hisingen in Göteborg, Sweden. WALK THROUGH FIRE was founded in 2007 by Ufuk Demir on guitars and bass, David Flood (MONACHUS) on drums and Johan Carlzon (ABANDON) on vocals. Prior to the recording of the self-titled first demo Johan left the band and it was instead released as an instrumental piece. In 2008 when it was time to start playing live, Andreas Olsson joined on bass and Oscar Albinsson on guitar. In 2010 the band decided to change of directions musically and also in the line-up. Oscar and David left and were replaced by Fredrik Flegar on guitar and Jonny Vigart on drums. Also, and And Ufuk dreas began doing vocals and in 2011 they released their debut album "Furthest From Heaven" through British underground label Aesthetic Death. Soon after the release of their debut album, the band and drummer Jonny went separate ways and Juliusz Chmielewski (MISTELTEIN, FALL OF SERAPHIM) took over the drum duties. In 2013 they entered the studio again to record 80 minutes of ultra slow and devastating doom/sludge metal entitled "Hope Is Misery".

In 2016 WALK THROUGH FIRE took on thdertaking as of yet; playing a feir biggest unull live set with the music of classical composer Arvo Pärt, a more than 2 year project. Imagine a disgusting doom/sludge metal wall of sound in extremely high volumes and low tempos, playing contemporary classical music pieces. Their third studio album "Vår Avgrund" (Our Abyss) was released on March 27, 2020 via Wolves & Vibrancy Records and Bloated Veins. WALK THROUGH FIRE have toured in Europe several times and have shared the stage with acts such as EYEHATEGOD, BELL WITCH, NOOTHGRUSH and have played at festivals DESERTFEST LONDON, NORTHERN DISCOMFORT and many more.

Upon the sparse 2:27 beginning movement of lightly plucked guitar, 'Avgrund'(Abyss) opens the cosmos for the churning throb of 'Den Utan Botten'(Bottomless), almost 9 minutes of deep maelstrom. When I listen to Nordic bands performing their art in the mother tongue I feel that I miss out a bit on their intentions - but the patient torment that this music delivers makes me think that yea mates, maybe its better not to have the whole picture so easily seen...  As the 10 minutes of 'Vägar Mot Slutet' (Roads Toward the End) unwinds, I imagine Viking warriors thrashing captured Ynys Prydain slaves as they are bent to task, hauling and dragging siege machinery to destroy their master's castle while Vídar looks on with approval; who is to say if wouldn't have turned out better this way - well, besides the English? At 6:30 minutes, the song lets loose the Kraken saxophone wailing of Malin Wättring. The first groaning notes startle me before she settles into what is closest to a melodic lead movement on the whole release.

'Till Intet Gjord'(To Nothing Done) - good lawd, this music gets to your core. You can smoke two spliffs waiting for this one to end. Patience. Ufuk Demir's vocals lurch, gurgle and boil to a slow motion viva voce landslide grinding a village off the earth's face. You could clear a party of young teenagers out with this music ... and if anybody is still around after this song ends, you should call for help. 'Att Leva Är Att Lida' (To Live is to Suffer) is my Storm och Stress favourite - a grinding sludge symphony tarpit of primordial art and when you get to the last 3 minutes you will glimpse Doom's Rapture - whoa. The last song 'Tragedin' (Tragedy) starts much the same as the first song 'Avgrund' does with patiently plucked guitar and then sustains the pain to a purposeful coda.

"Vår Avgrund" is the sludge musical equal to Ragnarök, the scorched earth end of the world. Or maybe a both obdurate but yielding beginning, a wilding temporal period when there is no thought - only cold sensation and desolate emptiness that draws in your interstellar matter to a inexorable critical mass event. "Vår Avgrund" music is not easily described - a doom symphony, a brutal aural assault. If you have ever had the sensory experience of a meal of Indian food that changes your day, you are close to the understanding. Bloody awesome mates ¡!
