Waking The Cadaver - Beyond Cops Beyond God album cover

I was really excited when I heard that the "Kingpins Of Death" and their "slamming gore groove" got a brand new contract at Siege Of Amida Records and are about to release a new album. Hell, only the album's cover artwork made my day! I sure hope the music in "Beyond Cops Beyond God" does, too!

The band got its name out there all by itself, with their videos and songs getting thousands of plays over the internet, and their debut album "Perverse Recollections Of A Necromangler" selling several thousands of copies without any retail support. The band now carries a brand new contract with Siege Of Amida Records and its sophomore full-length effort is about to be released.

I still remember all the pig squeals and gravity blasts that the band's 2006 demo was filled with. Damn, "Chased Through The Woods By A Rapist" became a "hit" since day one! The debut album that followed was great and now we reach 2010 with the band making one more step by releasing "Beyond Cops Beyond God". The fact is WAKING THE CADAVER sound much different this time. The vocals are different, the music is more into the Death Metal sound than the Brutal Core/Grind. Fortunately there are some slam parts left reminding us of the good old WAKING THE CADAVER. The sexual violence related lyrics are absent, giving their place to more "serious" matters. Oh, bong interludes are gone, too.

I noticed many people saying that WAKING THE CADAVER finally got all serious about it and created songs that actually have a structure and have something to say both musically and lyrically. What I have to say is that these people have probably never listened to extreme music and that WAKING THE CADAVER have cooled down their engine. "Beyond Cops Beyond God" is definitely not a bad album, and admittedly retains some of the past elements with some gore groove parts and hellish blasts slapping you out of the blue, but as some say, they finally got "serious".
