VOODOMA are a Dark Rock band with Gothic and Metal influences from Düsseldorf, Germany. "Hellbound" is their second release on Pride & Joy Music after "Gotland" which saw the light of day in 2017. After numerous album releases and festival, a new chapter now opens for the band: catchy melodies meet with tons of hooks, eclectic arrangements and a dark but still rocking atmosphere. The album contains ten tracks.

"Silent Scream" leads off the album. It begins with a dark riff and some electronica. The vocals are consistent with the style-baritone mostly with some peaks of depth here and there. "We are the Lost" is another heavy offering of electronica with some rhythm guitars. The is some melody present as well, and comparisons with RAMMSTEIN are hard to ignore. "Salems Hell" opens with charming piano notes and some clean female vocals. The vocal harmonies in the chorus are nice but the rhythm section could use some thickening up. "Where is the Light in you" features some more keyboards but the vocals have a slight disconnect with the music during the verses.

"Into the Deep" begins with some spacey and outerworld keys. A slow and steady rhythm develops from there. Some melodies are nice in the chorus, but it won't be enough to save the song. "Save Me" is a little bit of Pop bliss. I love the concise sound here, but again, that rhythm section needs thickening up. The melodies in the chorus are the real hero here. "Hellbound" is unfortunately an example of a trite riff combined with an unimaginative chorus. The title of the song is repeated in the chorus, but that is about all it has. "Hand of Fate" has some nice keyboards parts and harmonies in the chorus, but it's the verse that suffer mostly. "Angel X" begins with a more melodic sound from the keys, and the meaty bass notes are well done. Again, it's the vocals and the guitars that are lacking here mostly.

"Sandman" closes the album. The verses are thin again. Though they do reach some melodic and more powerful moments in the chorus, they really need to concentrate on the verses. Overall, I found this album to just be mediocre. The Gothic sound has been done many times before, and better. The band seems honest in their approach to the music, but it really doesn't offer anything in the originality department. It's a shame too, because the band seems to know their way around songwriting, but it just wasn't reflected in the final product.
