Dance of the Undesirables
Voidgazer
Mastermind Manny Watts comments, "VOIDGAZER are super revved up about the release of “Dance of the Undesirables.” with RPM. It's a turbo charged, fully torqued hot rod of a record that refuses to stay in one lane. The only way to see for yourself is buckle up, crank it up, and take the ride!" The album has seven songs. “Jesus Take the Needle” is first. The sound is heavy, weighted, and aggressive, with vocals that vary from deep gutturals to screams. The guitar work is adventurous, and the bass work pronounced. The title track has some thrashy elements in the guitar work and a steady feeling of aggressiveness and contentiousness. They put the gas pedal to the floor and stomp on it, and those leads are incredible, with some Jazzy tones to boot. “Expectations Management” uses a lot of the open note as the basis for the riff, but it does expand out into more territory than you can count. So far, the guitar work is the solid on the album, and again, with some fantastic lead work.
“Blast Equalizer” presents perhaps the darker and more somber side of the album, but it still has plenty of fuel. Just when you think that they land on a particular chord, they change it up, flexing their amazing sense of musicianship. “Sexual Sadist Serial Slasher” is a song that begs you to repeat that three times quickly. It has a burning sound to it that can ignite everything in its path, but the slower passages are crushing and brutal. “Grand Appeasement” is a short song that builds tension to the album’s finale, which is called “From Nothing.” It has a bit of a groove, although it is dirty and nasty in every good sense of those words. In fact, it is so nasty, you could get covered in it just by listening to it. For me, the best part of the album was the fanciful and calculated guitar work. In today’s world, the ubiquitous “riff” has all but disappeared, but VOIDGAZER reminds you that not only it is alive, but it is also continuous. The twin guitar architects spew forth a blazing approach to their craft, and is sets the tone for the album with confidence and power.
