Vittra - Blasphemy Blues album cover

VITTRA, is a Swedish Melodic Death/Thrash Metal band with a stench of black. Their name is inspired by the mythical creatures appearing in Swedish folk stories, a recurring theme weaving in and out of their music along with other giant inspirations such as Megadeth. Founded in 2017, they eventually released their debut album, "Wardens", in 2021. They are quickly back for the attack again this year with "Blasphemy Blues", another SolnaSound production with the support of Simon and Mike Wead of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. Hjules created the nice cover art of Skogsra, a mythologies creature of the Baltic forests. Only the band knows why there are two heads on the winged body that is is showing the way to death for the walking men of the forest. Maybe we will learn why inside.

Go! Is the first word. The stepping up and down of the guitar all over the place is the first unique thing that I hear. Technical is the second word that comes to mind. "Halls Of Ancients", is on a similar path. There is a story to be told in the lyrics. Flamenco to start "Satmara",lol. I'm not sure where that came from but that is what it sounds like to me. The heavy strings are soon back and leading the way down the track again though. I find that it is a little bit all over the place with the tempo and style changes to me though.

"Lykantropi", has more of a solid feel to it and stays in the pocket a little better than the last while a hardcore "Feeding Frenzy" swallows you up next in a similar fashion. It has a nice groove to it, a little faster overall and my favorite so far. "Self Loathing", makes it three in a row with a similar feel. They are all much different than the beginning of the album, which is a  good thing. After a couple of more songs, I find that it hasn't slowed down much at all and everything seems to be improving and moving in the right direction. Even the bonus track keeps the speed. I am not sure if the first couple of songs were written at the same time or not, they were just not as tight as the later parts were to me. I won't say that they were bad really, just different, but they finished strong.
