Poisoned Apple
Venomous Concept

The name of this band, the album cover and the whole atmosphere stink. Don't tell me that you believe that a band that features dismembered bunnies in its album's cover will play anything else than rotten and extreme music? At least the last time I saw RHAPSODY OF FIRE they had gay dragons soaring high and stuff like that. If melody is a word that goes next to the word Metal for you, then don't even bother reading what I have written below. This album is not for the weak hearted.
Even though I recently read some things about them and I thought that it was a new project, this band exists since 2003 and has already released a full-length album in 2004 (Retroactive Abortion), as well as two split CDs (one with 324 and one with BLOOD DUSTER). So, are you interested in knowing what a band that features musicians like Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH), Kevin Sharp (BRUTAL TRUTH), Danny Lilker (NUCLEAR ASSAULT) and Danny Herrera (NAPALM DEATH) has to offer with its brand new album?
I guess you are more than interested to know some things about Poisoned Apple (doesn't this title remind you of a well known fairytale?) so I will start by giving you some info straight away. To tell you the truth, there is not much to be said on such an album. VENOMOUS CONCEPT is a pure punkish old school Hardcore that resembles to the greats of the genre (BLACK FLAG, POISON IDEA, MINOR THREAT), as well as to the band's members other occupations (NAPALM DEATH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT). The album is mainly based on speed and aggression, offering only a few moments that could be described as groovy. As you can see there are 17 tracks, which means that the band has remained loyal to the Punk/Grind/Hardcore mentality. The album's duration is approximately 34 minutes and the longest song in here is Check Out, which is 3 minutes and 27 seconds long.
The sound is as raw and filthy as it should be, but you can also enjoy the band's music with a more than decent sound, since VENOMOUS CONCEPT have taken good care of their production. Filthy music under a razor sharp production is what you get with Poisoned Apple. What blew my brains out was Lilker's bass, since I am a big fan of Lilker being a bass player myself. This man is definitely the one that will blow your speakers with his ass kicking bass lines. I have really run out of words for this release, since this music is simple and honest without technical showoff and virtuoso bullshit. If you want some old school shit to get your blood pumping, VENOMOUS CONCEPT offer you a chance to get in the moshpit and enjoy some quality music.
