Bitter Lucid Truth

Valletta

I’m not gonna lie, I wish there was more of this. It’s primal, raw, and fun to listen to all at the same time. When you listen to it, you just get the feeling that they are having a grand old time with recording and performing these songs, and sometimes this feeling gets lost in the music industry today.

VALLETTA is a Black 'N Roll band hailing from North Carolina, USA. "Bitter Lucid Truth" is the band's sophomore effort. The album has five songs, and "Blood and Jesus" is first. The vocals are filthy, and a bit cadenced…the shouts are more reminiscent of Hardcore to me, but the steady rocking beat suggests otherwise. The beat is catchy, and although the vocals are horrid, you can head bang along easily. The lead breaks sound like a damn good time. "Cold Death" was the first single released ahead of the album. It's another injection of straight energy, and the vocalist sounds like he is going to lose his lunch with the impassioned screams. The music, again, is catchy and easy to groove with. That's the style here.

"Aggressor" is indeed an aggressive song, with a fast-picked riff and plenty of heavy bottom end. You can still groove with it, but it punishes you. The vocals are bordering on deadly here, and I don't think I have heard them so earnest in a while. The guitar solo however reminds you that you are here for the melody…at least, in part. "Doing Well" has slower, and more depressing tones, with clean, solemn vocals that speak of the opposite of the title. Perhaps, this is the face that a lot of us put on when someone asks us how we are doing…because, do they really want to know?

"Spitting the Word" is the final song, and it's also the longest. Meaty bass notes lead the charge, with some psychedelic tones in the background. Once it gets going, nothing will stop it…not concrete walls, not a metal shield. The vocals power through everything. I'm not gonna lie, I wish there was more of this. It's primal, raw, and fun to listen to all at the same time. When you listen to it, you just get the feeling that they are having a grand old time with recording and performing these songs, and sometimes this feeling gets lost in the music industry today.
