UNNATURAL presents a raw and classic Death Metal in their first EP "A Path to Ruin". Inspired by final 80's and beginning of 90's, with no intention to use any techniques influenced by present days. Ex-members of MORGUE and TEMPORAL BLEED, Ted Vantilburg (all-instruments) and Ken Escobedo (Vocals), both from Chicago, bring to us a very simple and brutal experience. The vocals are great, very similar to what we listen to Journey of Souls (Soulless), very powerful and exalted in this production by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

The five tracks on the EP are divided into two basically different rhythms. The first one is more tougher, deeper, and darker formed by the three first songs , with strong riffs and  linear drums and bass in most parts of them and the last two more aggressive with blast beats. The first one is "Consuming Wretchedness", sounds to me like a death poem, recited word by word or with small expression, having no solos and being very robust; this song was a good choice to kick-off the old school of Death Metal experience. Next, we have "Those Who Mourn" also with small sentences, and entering into a melodic death territory. It has a good small guitar solo in middle and the drums are a little noisier in the chorus than I like, but it doesn´t compromise the song at all.

"The Grave Bride" begins with the sound of a shovel digging, followed by an awesome scream vocal and instruments. The construction of the core riffs are very similar to the first song, but slower (for those who interests in theme I recommend the tale "Obsession" from an old Brazilian Horror movie called "The Strange World of Coffin Joe"). "Exalted" and "The End" are my favorite songs of the EP, with also absence of solos.  They are faster and more striking. The first have an alternation on vocals in the middle which is fucking awesome and the second totally fits to end this work.

So, if you are a fan of BOLT THROWER, OBITUARY, CANNIBAL CORPSE and want to take a travel train back in time to old Death Metal lands, "A Path to Ruin" is a good call.
