With two albums already under their belt, UNFATHOMABLE RUINATION is set to release their third full-length, "Enraged & Unbound," a title that sums up the music presented on it to a tee. This release is as angry and brutal as Technical Brutal Death Metal gets, and the record shows the band's ever-maturing sound.

On "Misshapen Congenital Entropy," the band showed excellent riffing and brutality. On "Finitude," the band showed more focus on atmosphere and lead guitars. On "Enraged & Unbound," the band is combining the two albums to have brutality with catchiness as well as atmosphere and intensely good leads.

When "An Obsidian Perspective" dropped as the first single, I had to listen to it. While I enjoyed the band's previous efforts, they never truly stood out to me outside of a few tracks. This song, however, hit a different way. With influences from a lot of different places, the track was a definite step up from anything they had previously created. It was a matured Technical Brutal Death Metal song.

The track features incredibly heavy riffing that leads to a climax of melodic and technical tremolo riffing, intertwining flawlessly with the powerful lyrical structure. It reaches a breakdown that reeks of something off "Krighsu" by WORMED. It's heavy and technical with impeccable songwriting.

"Protoplasmic Imprisonment" was the second single, and it was much stronger than the first. Being the last track on the album, it should be expected to be epic, and this does not disappoint. Maybe "strong" is a better word than "epic" in this case, but either way, the conclusion of an album should be great. Featuring a plethora of riffs and heavy themes, this track was what hooked me onto this release.

"A Prophetic Compulsion" is one of the strongest songs. With a groovy main riff that is drilled into the listener's skull through appropriate repetition, the track is a brutal composition. The riffs progress with ease as they build up to the main riff making a reappearance, making this song the best representation of the band's songwriting skills. It even features a softer, atmospheric section with clean, layered vocals almost identical to Travis Ryan of CATTLE DECAPITATION.

The songwriting on this release is extremely good for the most part. Most of the songs have great progression and flow, but there are a couple of tracks that falter in this field. "Codebreaker" features very nice buildup to a half-tempo breakdown. The breakdown lasts a few second before being abruptly interrupted by fast riffing. It's the most awkward moment on the album by far. "Occulta Violentiam" just features multiple moments of poor transitioning.

Despite some small flaws in songwriting, this album is quite incredible. With a nice structure of great songs evenly spread out and having a strong finish, the record is definitely Unfathomable Ruination's best work to date. "Enraged & Unbound" lives up to its name in every regard. It is in-your-face heavy and wildly technical.
