So TO THE GRAVE are an Australian deathcore band who formed way back in 2010, as they come from the city of Sydney, New South Wales as they have released a total of five studio albums over the years. Their debut album titled EXPECT RESISTANCE was released in 2014, which was followed up by three more studio albums in 2019, 2021, 2023 as well as their latest album was released titled EVERYONE'S STILL A MURDERER last year in 2024. They are back with us but this time they have released another EP titled STILL so it is apparent their line up has changed also over time since their formation but it is clear they are a force to reckon with in the deathcore scene even in Australia. The band line up is led by vocalist DANE EVANS, who is literally so devious in his approach to screamer vocals hitting those high notes and bringing the beast out within his soul.

So he's accompanied by guitarists JACK SIMONI and NIC WEBB, they both literally decimate their guitar strings and unleash those deathcore riffs. Also on bass guitar is MATT CLARKE and then on the drums is RAYMOND MARTIN, as they are really kicking ass bringing out the filth on rhythm as well as tonality, drums going absolutely insane but so impressive, I have to commend these guys.So back to their music it is clear these guys are not backing down anytime soon, as they have gone from strength to strength, as their debut album sent them on their path to their sophomore album titled GLOBAL WARMING in 2019, to their third album EPILOGUE in 2021, then DIRECTORS CUTS in 2023 and more recently EVERYONE'S STILL A MURDERER just last year in 2024.

So now they have a brand new EP titled after their previous album but shortened to STILL as they are back to breaking the boundaries once more in the deathcore scene from their native country of AUSTRALIA. We shall go straight into the new EP starting with the first track "Forced Diet Reassignment" as we hear rather filtered and processed drums as guitars ring loud and proud as well as the bellowing of vocals, hidden in the shadows of the mix. But then the vocals do come to light as the beast within the vocalist is unleashed to eat away its own words, as guitars thump so much low end and drums are very cruel if not overpowering yet very effective. "Sawed Off" opens with roaring vocals seconds before the rest of the band come in with heavy but processed guitar riffs as well as boxy sounding drums that are not too dominant.

Aggressive vocals all the way through as this is the main objective of this deathcore band, the drums keep the tempo going with vocals also taking command, as there are other sound effects at play here. Then the tempo is brought up later on in the track with drums setting this tempo change but there are small variations by drums to alter course before we are set to go into the next track which is  "Show Them The Bodies". This track slows down in tempo as drums and vocals switch roles of who takes charge, guitars come in when vocals are taking a breath but they do play alongside the rest of the band in segments in this EP. A short sound clip of a chainsaw and someone screaming is the tonality and setting the mood for what this deathcore band is all about.

"Hunt The Hunters" is up next now as we hear guitars and drums as well as bass guitar taking the stage and spotlight before vocals do approach, the lead guitars set a different path with their notation and rhythm at first. But then once more the lead guitars team up with bass guitar and drums to push the instrumental elements of the band into the centre of the audio spectrum. There is a short audio monologue of two people having an intense phone call, but then it fades away for the instrumental side of the band to take over, then quiet as vocals build up the intensity again. "Emesis System" is very settled at first but has some sound effects that are stirring up trouble before the passive-aggressive instruments come in, especially the vocals.

There is a short drum build up as the rest of the band is in, creating mass anarchy and destruction as this is just a short track again as there are jabs or bolts of this deathcore band. The drums and vocals really lay down the law and foundations with guitars filling in the structure as the next track comes which is "D.N.A (Do Not Amputate)". The guitars are sizzling in the distance at first as drums crack with a snare hit before blistering drums come in with a narrative voiceover as guitars are also joining in as drums go berserk with cymbal hits and quick fills. Vocals join in a little later than usual, I would say they didn't want to come in too soon as the guitars, bass guitar and drums were enjoying their time they were given to show what they were made of musically and sonically.

Cymbal hits and guitar riffs in complete synchronisation as vocals pour their vengeance and disturbing attitude all over this section of the track before an instrumental section is in motion with no vocals, again the narrative voiceover is briefly before vocals take over until the end. As we go into the last track which is "Death Walking Tour" as the deathcore stomping of guitars and drums is active and very much awake, as guitars quicken the pace as drums match their tempo with quick fills. The track has a pretty cool flow and tempo where there isn't too much going on, as we hear the heavy boxy snare with evil vocals breathing heavily before there is lightning speed drums blasting with sizzling guitar riffs.

Towards the end is some filthy spitting and what an end to this EP, so this band certainly has potential to build on their music as they have done so who knows where they can go from here. I am certain they will go onto bigger ambitions and I cannot wait to hear more from this band as it is clear the deathcore genre is still alive but perhaps this genre deserves a bigger push on the airwaves and more promotion with the music as well as the band. So do check these guys out and until their next release, I will certainly keep an eye out for these days.
