What do you get when you take musicians in the Hard Rock genre from Sweden and Ireland? The answer is a band, who despite not being on the radar for that long, five years to be exact, have garnered themselves a strong following with their sound that pays homage to classic 70's Rock music, while making it sound modern. You also get a band whose debut album soared to #2 on the Swedish national charts and have garnered praise from musical giants such as IN FLAMES, MOTORHEAD, OPETH, AIRBOURNE and BONAFIDE to name a few.
Put together all of the above and you get the Sweden born Hard Rock quintet that is THUNDERMOTHER. Although the majority of the band are from Sweden, they are fronted by their Irish born lead singer and this clash of two nations, who in recent years have made some cracking Rock releases, is a recipe that you know is going to work.
Having gained huge success with their debut album "Rock N' Roll Disaster" in 2014 and praise from a large number of musical giants in the industry as listed above, it seemed that it was time for a second album to be recorded and so this quintet did just that, and although it's not due out until September 4th, I will be bringing you an exclusive review of what you can expect from "Road Fever", which is the second album from this Swedish & Irish Rock N' Roll quintet.
Starting off with the lead single, "It's Just A Tease", you get a good idea of just what these two nations can do when they come together to pay homage to the Classic Rock of the 70's, while making it sound modern thanks to the catchiness of the guitar riffs, the punchy vocals from their Irish born singer and the fast paced melodies of this tune, which as a whole, get this album off to a very good start.
Throughout the album's 10 songs, we are treated to some more awesome sounding modern Classic Rock tunes with belters, such as the second single "Deal With The Devil" which is a homage to Lemmy Kilmester of MOTORHEAD, the punchy and energetic fast paced melodies of the albums second shortest song "Road Kill", "Alright Alright" which is the type of tune you could plonk into a video game in the racing genre, the short but sweet "FFWF" which stands for Fight Fire With Fire, the slower paced but still pretty awesome "Thunder Machine" and the albums closing anthem "Rock N' Roll Sisterhood"
I think what makes this album sound so great is the tools that were used to record it, such as one of the two studios in Sweden which, according to the band, had a vibe suited their sound, as well as the gear and the 70's style analog sound they got when making the album.
It's clear that choosing a studio that suited their sound was a smart move, as there is plenty to like about this album. It may be short for a full length at only 30 or so minutes playtime, but it knows how to fill that time well, thanks to some punchy and energetic modern sounding Classic Rock tunes, that you will never get tired of, no matter how many times you play the album from start to end.
Another great factor of this album's great sound, is the experience that these ladies of Rock N' Roll have from not only recording their successful debut album, but also from all their touring too, and this shows in the performances of the songs on this album, which are all punchy, powerful, hard hitting and energetic as hell.
Another sweet cherry on the already tasty cake, is that I can not really find any faults with this, which is just as well, as I was too busy enjoying it to find any, which is a good thing, as when an album is recorded, written and mixed this well, you will be spending too much time enjoying the hell out of it to really worry about any faults that, may or may not be present in the music.
Bottom line, THUNDERMOTHER are a unit who you should definitely keep on your Rock N' Roll radar, as they are girls who know how to kick some ass, have some fun and their punchy energetic sound is enough to give their label mates CRUCIFIED BARBARA a run for their money, as both are equal with each other when it comes to being an all female Hard Rock unit who know how to rock out and make awesome sounding music that will always remain enjoyable, no matter how old it gets or how many times it's played. Anything else? Oh yes. Pick this up on day one of its release, as you will not be disappointed.<
