"Redemption" is the new E.P from Norwegian multi-instrumentalist and song-writer THOMAS CARLSEN and his project THOMAS CARLSEN'S TRANSMISSION which was released back in Augest 2021. For this project he recruited MARIUS DANIELSEN of Power Metal band LEGEND OF VALLEY DOOM to record vocals. This is very much inspired by 80's Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with inspiration from bands such as IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and SAXON. This is already sounding good so let's dive in and give it a listen.
The E.P opens with "Cloudbusting" and we can hear the rain pouring down only to have a drum fill creep in. There is a cool lead guitar line then the riffing kicks things off. This is an instrumental track and has a very IRON MAIDEN feel to it. There are riffs you can bang your head to, some cool lead guitar licks and twin guitar harmonies to keep the track going. This is a fun song and a good opener. Next up is "Redemption" and right from the start it is very riff heavy and I love it. It really gets you moving and rocking too. Filled with killer riffs to bang your head to. The vocals come in and they really channel that NWOBHM vibe. This is a catchy song you can really sing along with with a guitar solo that rips through the song with some dueling guitars for after.
After that we have "Fallen From Grace" and straight away we get that epic IRON MAIDEN feel and you can hear that the song is going somewhere cool. Killer riffs come smashing through and the vocals bring the song together. This is again another one to bang your head to as this happens a lot on this E.P. there is lots of energy here too as a guitar solo lifts the song up then back again for one more big chorus. Here we have an IRON MAIDEN cover of the song "Still Life" which appears on their "Piece Of Mind" album. This cover though still has those unique lead guitar lines that only DAVE MURRAY and ADRIAN SMITH can write. This is very much like the original version with not very much deviation. It still has that riff that really hits hard and the vocals here hands BRUCE DICKINSON'S lines well. It is a very faithful cover and I did enjoy it. Sure what's not to like, it's IRON MAIDEN.
The last song on the E.P and we got "Hard Line" which opens with a kick ass riff that kicks things off. This one you can get a bit of a SAXON vibe and there are so many cool riffs going on here. The vocals does a good job with carrying the song but the guitar work is the real star here. A sweet fucking guitar solo tears through the song followed by a twin guitar attack. The riffs then take over to close out the E.P. From listening to "Redemption", this project by THOMAS CARLSEN'S TRANSMISSION you really get that 80's heavy metal vibe straight away. The guitar work is really cool and it has everything you love like killer riffs, dueling guitars and plenty of awesome guitar solos. This really does act as a love letter to all that 80's metal glory and you can really hear the influences behind it. The songs are really fun and I did really enjoy this.
