Thecodontion - Supercontinent album cover

THECONDONTION is a band from Rome, Italy - that call themselves Prehistoric Death Metal. They have recently released their first full-lenght album "Supercontinent" and that's what we are going to talk about. The opening track from the album is the instrumental "Gyrosia" which starts out with a very heavy bass line and some guitar sound in the background that reminded me of something tribal, specially when the drums are added. It was a nice introduction for the material and a different one.

"Vaalbara" starts with guitar riff that is a little bit groovy, but it also reminded me a lot of the first records of Death Metal released back in the 1980's. The vocals are aggressive and deep and the instrumental is chaotic and the song is fast. "Ur" have a completely different vibe and it is most ruled by the bass and really low growling vocals. It is slower and heavier from the previous song, but the mixing isn't as good as well.

"Kenorland" brings back the agility but it all mixed with some slower parts as well, which made the song sounds a little bit more dynamic from the previous ones. "Lerova" is by far the most different song from the album until now. It has a different bass line on the beginning and the guitar sound isn't that noise one that we were listening before.   It is an instrumental song. "Nuna" and "Rodinia" are both aggressive songs that just fits in the album, with nothing new to add about. "Tethys" is another instrumental song, but it seems to be more inspiring than the other one. It isn't boring.

"Laurasia-Gondwana" and "Pangaea" are both heavy, fast and pure Death Metal songs that will definitely make the crowd go crazy at a live concert. The last one being more dynamic with its different ambiances and atmospheres. "Panthalassa" is the last song from the album and probably the most different from all the record. It has different influences and the mixing quality is better from any other. It is a good instrumental song.

THECONDONTION's first album is different, and I do not know why the mixing quality changed so much, creating a difficult listening to the album. There are good songs here, but most of them felt uninspired to me.
