Canadian Alternative band THE VEER UNION are back with their fourth studio release. Formed back in 2004 under the name VEER, they have certainly been around the block a few times. Having shared the stage with a few memorable bands, they're currently planning a tour with none other than DISTURBED, which, for any band, is quite the achievement.

It's no secret that lately I've been reviewing a lot of Rock and Alternative lately, so when I saw this band pop up in my inbox I was a bit disappointed. But within the first few moments my disappointment turned to excitement. Remember back in your teenage years, all the angst-filled music that was around that almost every alternative teenager was drawn to? Well this album is like having the pleasure of listening to all that early 2000's alternative music for the first time all over again.

Their sound is somewhat melodic and aggressive all at the same time, the prime example would be "Defying Gravity". In a split second you can have melodic clean vocals and soothing guitar and the next you can have chunky guitar and drum pounding and harsh vocals. There's a certain alluring tone to Christian's vocals. They're not overly melodic but they stand out from the instruments and are truly the focus of this album.

The whole album is spilling over with emotion, power and poignancy. If not for the lyrics, then the tone of the instruments, the atmosphere, the production tone; there's so much to love here that there truly is something for everyone

This album is what you would get if you took early Alt-Rock and brought it forward a decade or two. You have more modern elements but it doesn't sound like a lot of the "edited to death" Alt-Rock bands we have to deal with nowadays. It's extremely hard to find a fault in this album. You have the classic Alt-Rock sound but with modern production and tones, what's not to love?

If you're a fan of Alt-Rock, this album should be in your collection. This truly is one of the best releases of the genre I have heard in years. Power, emotion and aggressiveness; there's something here for everyone. THE VEER UNION are a force to be reckoned with if this release is anything to go by. Watch out world!
