The Spectrophobia – F41.1

It was a painful listen for me. There is a lot wrong with the album that detailing it would just be adding insult to injury. Suffice to say, it’s a skip for me.

I did a lot of digging on the band, but could not come up with much information. Their label’s site did not have them listed as an artist, nor did The Metal Archives. They are a Metal sextet from Germany, and that is all that I know about them. Their newest album has 10 songs, and “Human Sacrifice” is first. The opening tones are very bass heavy, and there is a slow rhythmic cadence with death metal vocals. Clean vocals follow, but they are a bit pitchy. “Messiah” isn’t much better, unfortunately. It’s a decent composition but phasing issues and pitchy vocals plague it. There are also some strange chord progressions.

“For the Fallen” is another miss. The riffs are too simple, and although the harsh vocalist puts in some energy into his performance, the cleans seem to be an afterthought. “Mbsp” is yet another miss. I don’t know how many times I can repeat it, but the clean vocals are troubling. She has a decent voice, but her parts don’t make sense in the context of the album, and are off key. “Magic Potions” has some decent energy, but it just sounds amateur compared to many of the other albums I have reviewed this year, and I hate to be so critical.

“Demons Inside of Me” features clean guitars and vocals. The vocals sound a little better here, and now I am thinking that they should push them into the music more. But the sharp transition at the half-way mark doesn’t make much sense. “Eat me” has an odd mix of clean and harsh tones, but again, the transitions could be smoother. “Asylum” closes the album. The cadence is rapped here, further pushing the album into the depths. Overall, you have to give the band credit for their effort, but it was a painful listen for me. There is a lot wrong with the album that detailing it would just be adding insult to injury. Suffice to say, it’s a skip for me.
