First time I ever hear about these guys. Stoner band from Sweden with Geroge Atlagic behind the drum kit? What am I going to face after I put this CD in my CD player? I get a beer and sit down to listen to the CD. Hmmm, not bad. Not at all. So, let's see what this band has to offer...
This band was originally called Quil but after their debut album The Quill (1995), they changed their name to The Quill. They were formed in the beginning of the 90' s. The Quill managed to play with bands like Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Motorhead and Dio. They got heavy as hell by removing the keyboards and bringing 70's Rock and Blues riffs up to date. After hard work and determination, they signed a contract with SPV Records to release three albums, including the one I'm reviewing.
I can admit that this album was a very pleasant review! I have listened to it many times and I didn't get tired at all. The Quill deliver us a straight-in-your-face, non-compromising album. What did you expect? Hyper technical riffs with endless solos? No way! These guys sound like an endless jamming. Their sound is very close to Monster Magnet, Spiritual Beggars and Corrosion Of Conformity. I also realized that this band must love Stevie Ray Vaughn. So, we're talking about a great band that knows how to Rock your socks off!!! Rock-solid rhythm section. The bassist is a true architect in the tracks. The vocals just can't be described. The guy is awesome! It's been some time since I last heard a voice like this one. Very good production and really ironic artwork.
Nothing more or less to say. I'll just continue listening to the album. These guys were a really pleasant surprise for me. Just try to have a taste of their music and you'll understand...
