Sounds of Green & Blue

The Lunar Effect

I have to say, I typically don’t take to bands trying to recapture the sounds of the past, but although that is part of THE LUNAR EFFECT, it doesn’t encapsulate them. Their music is genuine, honest, and full of heart-felt emotions, and they perform it really the only way they know how…with charisma.

From Bandcamp, “THE LUNAR EFFECT lift up cosmic spirits with "Sounds of Green & Blue" album, out in April 2024 via Svart Record. Sonic architects, known for their gravitational pull of fuzzy, snarling riffs and psychedelic visions, proudly announce the release of their latest album, "Sounds of Green & Blue," available to pre-order now through Svart Records. “Sounds of Green & Blue” is a galactic journey through sound that showcases their evolution and marks a pivotal chapter in their musical odyssey.”

The album has nine songs, and “Ocean Queen” is first. It begins with heavy bass notes and then smooths out to what looks like a smoky scene in a late night club…the guitar riff is fuzzy, and weighted, and the vocals swell and retract. “Flowers for Teeth” has a faster moving sound that is reminiscent for me of the bands of yesteryear like LED ZEPPELIN, especially in the structure of the riff and the drums. “Colour my World” has some psychedelic qualities, almost as if the listener is being put into a full trance, but very slowly, and is unable to pinpoint the exact moment where that happens.

“In Grey” has more old school tones and 70’s vibe, and reminds me a bit of early HEART at some time and even ALICE IN CHAINS at others. The music is mostly depressive, according to the title, but they are able to power it up quickly when they need to. “Middle of the End” begins with sultry piano notes and some real swag in their step. Much of the music drips heavily with emotion so far, and that is one redeeming quality for sure. “Pulling Daisies” has some nice blues work from the guitar, and here, I get a little of THE DOORS, especially in the vocals. The guitar riff is downright bossy.

“Fear Before the Fall” is another emotionally heavy song, and the structure of the chorus reminds me of QUEEN. The knife goes into your back, and it’s twisted, mercilessly. Oh, how you lament. “On the Story Goes” closes the album, and it’s a touching exit.
