The Twilight Affliction

The Lucidia Project

The album showed promise and potential, but didn’t quite meet the mark. Too many of the songs had a similar delivery, that was melancholy and sad. The harsh vocals helped break them up to an extent, but their placement wasn’t the best in terms of timing. This is a band to keep an eye on, because they have all of the elements to be successful, they just aren’t quite there yet.

Founded in 2022 by Chase Baldwin and Benjamin Jacobs, THE LUCIDIA PROJECT create a unique blend of Symphonic and alternative metal, with elements of Death and Doom metal. Blending together the atmospheres of post rock, and the emotional tapestries of confessional songwriting. The additional talents of Daniel Williams, Garrett Carroll and Aaron Bedford help to create this unique sound. The album has six songs, and “Prophecy” is first, and the opening tones are symphonic, melodic, and a bit melancholy, but the riff is firm and strong. The vocals are mostly clean, and the sound emotional and gentle, but there is also the occasional bite of harsh vocals when the music rises.

“Bloodlines” has sharper angles in the guitars, and some roaring out of the gate with harsh vocals. The symphonic elements do a good job of filling in the background, and the music has both hopeful tones and melancholy ones at the same time. “December” has that cold bite that is associated with the air of that month, and also emotional qualities. For me, it sounds like someone wo is anxious for warmer weather once again. “Lockdown” has a mid-tempo pace and the vocals are just a bit pitchy, but this tells you they are real and not autotuned. The sound is again quite emotional, and the backing of guitars keeps the music firm.

“Lights Out” is a gentler, piano-led song, that packs a lot of emotion, and the feelings are genuine. The final cut is “In My Sleep.” It has both firm tones at the bottom end and gentler ones that rise above. Some of the longing tones linger just a bit too long, but they are not lost to the listener. Overall, the album showed promise and potential, but didn’t quite meet the mark. Too many of the songs had a similar delivery, that was melancholy and sad. The harsh vocals helped break them up to an extent, but their placement wasn’t the best in terms of timing. This is a band to keep an eye on, because they have all of the elements to be successful, they just aren’t quite there yet.
