The Less Fortunate - The Less Fortunate album cover

First formed in 2016, six piece Metalcore band "The Less Fortunate" is here with their self-titled album debut. Based in Joplin, Missouri; this band has been playing local shows in their scene, and around the surrounding states since 2017 while still releasing studio tracks along the way before releasing their debut album with Sliptrick Records.

The album kicks off with "This Is Who We Are" and has a nice mixture of melodic and heavy tones and the lyrics describe exactly what the title is about.  The dual vocalists go really well together, the clean melodic vocals of Blanca Molinero compliment Cory Tauntons very well in a sound that you don't hear that often anymore. "Vice Versa" starts out really slow and continues into the introduction of the drums and vocals. The low vocals return at about a minute fifteen in, and the instrument's start to pick up the pace and begins to turn heavy. It's a really well put together song. "Levels" just explodes with amazing vocal ranges and guitar work. This high energy song manages to keep it that way even when the clean vocals enter for a few seconds then drifts back into the breakdowns and double kick pedals.

"Black Butterfly" begins with a single guitar playing before the vocals come in. It has nice melody to it and then the low vocal growls come in and then the breakdowns and guitar solos, then switches back to the melodic singing of Blanca Molinero and is executed extremely well. "Utilities" follows a similar pattern as the songs preceding it. The vocal exchanges, the breakdowns, nothing really stood out to me here. The final track on the album titled "Inside the Mastermind" starts out slow but then jumps right in to the bouncy grooves that this band has been showing throughout the record.

Overall, I enjoyed this album. "The Less Fortunate" has a future for sure with their unique sound they produce, along with only forming in 2016. They have a lot of talent and could take it a long way. I will definitely be adding this band to my playlist now because I really enjoy the change they bring with how they distribute their vocal patterns. I would recommend checking this band out.
