Over a decade ago, The Dead Daisies burst onto the music scene. Their mission, to create some good old fashioned 70’s style rock, gather some of the finest musicians in the world, and have a great time keeping rock music alive. The band’s DNA includes an amazing collective of players that includes David Lowy, Doug Aldrich, John Corabi, Michael Devin, Tommy Clufetos, Glenn Hughes, Marco Mendoza, Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer, Darryl Jones, Charley Drayton, Deen Castronovo and Jon Stevens amongst others. The Dead Daisies have gone from strength to strength since the release of their self titled album in 2013. They have released six studio, one live one, covers and a “Best Of’ album to a growing army of fans worldwide. John Corabi returned to the fold for the 2023 Tour with bassist Michael Devin (of Whitesnake fame) joining the band for the first time.

This album starts off with the title track “Light Em Up” which starts in true Dead Daisies fashion no nonsense unapologetic high octane rock n' roll catchy chorus with some lush guitar riffs ,a great solo and great vocals from Corabi, a track which has an AC/DC sort of feel to it. ”Times Are Changing” just carries on that momentum from the opener very catchy rock n' roll, with great vocals from John Corabi. “I Wanna Be Your Bitch” has attitude, sleaze, swagger with some gritty guitars, a deep bassline from Michael Devin giving the track depth ,one of the best tracks on the album. ”I Wanna Ride” has a great start that bass is so deep I love it ,when the track kicks in some great drums and bass dominate the track with the guitars kicking in giving it an edgy touch classic rock sound at its very best ,maybe one for all those bikers a new anthem? Reminds me a lot of The Cult. ”Back To Zero” is more mid tempo with a lot heavier touches within the melody and vocals. some nice vocal harmonies are also a good touch. ”Way Back Home” has a more bluesy/southern rock feel to it Doug Aldrich and David Lowy deliver some killer riffs & runs. ”Take A Long Line” has a killer bassline to open the track its thunderous ,pure rock n' roll with a catchy chorus, again great guitars, fast pounding drum work from Tommy Clufetos, John Corabi carries on the excellent vocal delivery. ”My Way Or The High Way” is just a superb example of a classic rock track, which just goes to show when The Dead Daisies create monster tracks like this rock ain't dead by a long shot! ”Love That Will Never Be” is a more soulful/bluesy rock ballad affair which has that classic/southern rock feel, great solo & again excellent vocals, with some nice piano & organ touches. ”Take My Soul” is a great track to end the album on it has southern rock & bluesy touches ,fantastic harmonies and melodies, pure classic rock through and through.

Light Em Up” is another fantastic album from The Dead Daisies a very a very much welcome back for John Corabi, who I have been a fan of since the release of The Scream album, who I personally prefer to Glenn Hughes . How Motley Crue let Corabi go is beyond me! This album delivers a masterclass in hard rock music, pure high octane rock n' roll from five great musicians delivering a classic rock sound that deserves to live on. Definitely a highly recommended, a very strong release in every way.
