You know, last year was a great year for new British Rock & Metal music as I did get quite a few good releases with one of them landing a spot on my top 10 of 2014 list. This year however, I've not really been getting that many new British Rock & Metal promos to listen to but recently that's been changing as a few have been landing in my inbox recently including the album in this review. The time has now come to remind myself why I am proud to be British and a rocker/metalhead with the band featured in this review who are called THE BURNING CROWS.
Formed in 2010, this UK based Rock quartet released their debut EP "Never Had It So Good" two years after their formation which was well received by critics and music lovers alike. The band's debut album "Behind the Veil" came out a year later which was launched through the crowdfunding platform PledgeMusic and the total funding reached a whopping 154% of the original goal. This success meant they could only get better and sure enough that is exactly what happened as their debut received high praise once more.
Not wanting to make the fans wait any longer, a second PledgeMusic Campaign was launched for their second album which achieved 250% of it's goal in just 12 amazing days. The result of this success was their newest album "Murder At The Gin House" and I'm here to see what the result of a hugely successful crowd funded album sounds like.
Clocking in at around 43 minutes playtime across 10 brand new original recordings, the second album from this British Rock quartet has already scored high marks from music publications such as Classic Rock and Fireworks Magazine and you know, those scores are well deserved because there is a lot to like about the bands songs and their distinctive sound which seems to revive the well loved classic Rock sound while making it sound modern.
Starting off with the opening number "Hell To Pay", this song alone gives you a clear distinctive idea of the success this band has had despite only being on the music scene for five years as it is full of heavy guitar riffs, punchy melodies and an energetic vibe that impresses you the moment the bands music reaches your ears.
Over the remaining nine songs on this album, we are treated to even more great sounding British Rock numbers which include the punchy "Come On", the upbeat lead single "Shine", the feelgood "Alright", the mellow but relaxing "Goodbye (To The Sunshine)", the heavy hitting "1137", the fast paced "Little Bit More", the melodic sounding "She's The Summertime", the highly energetic "Feels Like Home" and the beautiful closing number "Holding On".
I think the reason these songs sound so good is because of the different styles of Rock that been used here as well as the tones that are used as one minute you have something that sounds heavy and then cheerful the next. The way the songs have been mixed and produced also sound great too as each song is fine tuned to capture the bands unique distinctive British Rock sound which in turn allows you to feel and appreciate the time and energy that was put into creating these great songs.
Bottom line, THE BURNING CROWS continue the tradition of helping to put British Rock back on the map by writing excellent songs that pay homage to Classic Rock while sounding modern and sweet and the tradition doesn't end there as I still have releases from bands such as INGLORIOUS and COLOUR OF NOISE to look forward to. You can of course expect reviews of them to crop up on this site as and when I get them but in the meantime, get yourself a copy of THE BURNING CROWS new album and crank it loud.
