Embodiment of Death

If you like pain, this album offers it in spades, and it’s almost too much for one person to bear. You will hear this screams for months when you fall asleep at night.

From Bandcamp, “With a passion for heavy, heart-wrenching music, TER ZIELE joined forces at the end of 2020 to put their spin on the doom genre. Through heavy, desolate riffs, fragile melodies, and poignant vocals, the band explores the boundaries of doom metal while implying their affinity for post- and black metal. Prepare to journey into the depths of anguish and introspection, which seamlessly intertwine and evoke a profound emotional experience, immersing you in a daunting exploration of the human condition. This debut album invites you to delve into the shadows of your own psyche, leaving you transformed by the visceral passage through darkness and desperation.”

The album has five songs, and “As Long As I Breathe” is first; a short introduction to the album, leading to “The Separation of Body and Soul.” It has a slow pace, with tortured vocal screams, and at time, they are guttural. It registers very high on the pain scale, maybe a 9 out of 10, and it’s the kind of pain that sinks in and takes root. “Of Noumenon Reality” is a 12-minute beast, and gives the band plenty of time to explore the darker areas of our existence. In philosophy, a noumenon is knowledge posited as an object that exists independently of human sense. The term noumenon is generally used in contrast with, or in relation to, the term phenomenon, which refers to any object of the senses. One meaning could translate to “nothing,” and that is what the song leaves me feeling…dead inside.

“This Mortal Coil” has more hushed tones at first, but the torture is still every bit as high as it was. A hardened, fuzzy riff enters, and it almost doesn’t register, although its weight is seductive and burdensome the longer it remains. “As Long As I Breathe, I Am To Suffer” closes the album, and it’s a very fitting title for the entire listening experience. Smooth, gentle tones that open the song very quickly descend into madness. There is a slow down of steady bass notes around the mid-way point, offering a brief reprieve, but the torture returns with a new found energy. If you like pain, this album offers it in spades, and it’s almost too much for one person to bear. You will hear this screams for months when you fall asleep at night.
