Talon - Fallen Angels album cover

TALON is a US band, being around the block for almost 7 years. Since Wrecking Ball (Frontier Records, 2002) they are back with their second album Fallen Angels (Kivel Records) with Chandler Mogel taking over the vocals.

To be honest I hadn't had a clue about this band and by looking at the cover I thought  that I would deal with another symphonic/atmospheric release. From the first seconds the CD started playing I was positively surprised. TALON is classic melodic Hard Rock. The first track Fallen Angels is a powerful song with sharp guitars which together with keyboards compositions make a catchy mixture. In the same motive but slower tempo, with an AC/DC style opening, follows Burn. There are two heartbreakers in the album, Baby Jane (in the CINDERELLA style) and Crying In The Dark.

One good thing with this album is that it has a remarkable twist, hence you can distinct a variety of influences: from SCORPIONS and DOKKEN in the guitars of Paradise, the WHITESNAKE mentality in Always Be My Baby, GARY MOORE attitude in Live Free. The album ends with Wrecking Ball, the newest version from the debut album, and C 'est La Vie, where the heavier sound develops gradually without lacking the melody .

The production is well attended and gives a boost to what is already there, great melodies, guitar themes which are in a good balance with the solos, plus the vocals of Chandler Mogel, which, where needed, adopt a bluesy/mellow line.

So, for the ones who feel nostalgic about the 80's Hard Rock era, this album definitely worths your attention.
