SYZTEM7 is a genre blending band from Seattle, Washington also known as the Emerald City. By genre blending I'm talking about mixing what sounds like metal, alternative, and rock into their own signature sound. The band has been around since 2003 and has a major following online. "Evolving" is the name of the record and is out on November 29th via Mighty Music.
"No Regrets" is what starts this album off, and it definitely has the Seattle "grunge sound" influenced in it right away. It has a really calm but catchy vibe throughout the entirety of the song. "This Disguise" begins with synth noises and a lone guitar playing until the drums kick in. "Eternita Divina" blends a wide range of genres into a really catchy feel good song. The instruments continue to flow really well together and you can tell already these guys have their own distinct sound to them. "Forgive and Forget" displays what the guitars can really do with a solo towards the beginning. Guitar chugs and pauses is what help make this song.
"The Worst" begins with the little darker intro from the guitars. One thing this band is really good at is pulling you in with their unique style and sound in their songs. It's not a bad thing and keeps me listening. The production in this one is really well done. "Skintag" opens up with the some guitar licks and a really clean bassline and drum beat. It begins to get heavier as the song goes on. The final song on the album is the album title itself "Evolving" and it begins the same way as most of the songs with a very "outer space sound" kicking off the track. But it seems to build up into a heavier sound underneath the singer's voice. Nothing really stood out to me on this. It's a really well produced track; it's just starting to sound repetitive to me.
All in all, SYZTEM7 is standing out in my opinion because of their genre blending styles and playing. But I do have to say that a lot of their songs sounded like recycled riffs from the song before. They have been killing it in the scene for over a decade so there's no doubt they have what it takes and are extremely talented. I just wished I saw more ranges but then again, they genre blending so this is just their own unique sound. Check them out.
