Kala Rupa

Supreme Mytsic

Overall, I have to say, this was a fun album to listen to on a variety of levels. The energy was approaching a 10 out of 10, and although the sounds were punishing at times, the vocal harmonies brought some melody to the table. They kick some ass, and take no prisoners, that’s for sure.

I wasn't able to find out much information about the band on the web, so, as with some of my reviews, we are going to have to let the music do the talking. The album has nine songs, and "Stealing Beauty" is first. It enters with slow, low guitars, that are fuzzy, and then a nifty little riff saunters in. The clean vocals are harmonized, and they bring some melody with them, lightening the mood a little. "Halo of Vultures" begins with meaty bass notes that transition to a raucous song with a lot of energy. The clean vocals are shouted at times, with a raspy edge, and the leads follow a blues scale nicely. "Colorblind" has a groove to it that is infectious, and man, do the boys know how to. If you aren't bobbing your head along to this song, you might want to check your pulse to make sure you are still alive.

"Invoking Auspiciousness" is a short, two-minute pause, and the tones are cloudy. I'm not sure what I am listening to here. "Supreme Mystic" has a dark, rocking sound, fueled by a nasty riff, and some harmonized vocals that sound dejected at times. That is, until screams follow, and you get the full frontal of their anger. "Transmigration of the Soul" sounds like a trip through a psychedelic lane. They talk about love, in sorts. The pace is slow, and the bass notes are crushing. You can feel each drum strike in your soul, and the lead breaks are smoking. "Jewels on the Hood of a Serpent" is slow, smoky, and crushing, and they grab the steering wheel, hit the gas, and drive the riff right down your throat. The vocals are particularly nasty here.

The title track is the final song. It begins with clean guitars that are just a bit dissonant, and it's the calm before the storm. Spoken words enter, somber, and dark, crushing riffs follow. It has all the energy of a lightning bolt. Overall, I have to say, this was a fun album to listen to on a variety of levels. The energy was approaching a 10 out of 10, and although the sounds were punishing at times, the vocal harmonies brought some melody to the table. They kick some ass, and take no prisoners, that's for sure.
