Suicidal Angels - Eternal Domination (Reissue) album cover

No matter how many times I hear a riff that sounds like it belongs on "Reign In Blood", "Pleasure To Kill" or "Agent Orange" it still makes my blood boil and gets my heart pumping. I can never have too much old school Thrash annihilating my ear canal. I am perfectly okay if originality isn't at the forefront of a band as long as the music is executed well and played from their soul. SUICIDAL ANGELS'debut album "Eternal Domination" reissued by Austria's NoiseArt Records is the perfect example of a band wearing their influences on their sleeve and not being ashamed of it.

Alongside ROTTING CHRIST, SEPTIC FLESH and FIREWIND, SUICIDAL ANGELS are one of the leading Metal bands that hail from Greece. They are also one of the few straight up Thrash Bands. All four bands play a slightly different genre but they are some of the top Metal bands in the world today. "Eternal Domination" was originally released in 2007 through Old School Records and garnered immediate praise from metal fans and music critics. Four songs here have been recycled as they originally appear on their Debut EP "Armies Of Hell" which was released the year prior.

The most striking difference on their debut is the vocals of Nick Melissourgos. Here he is channeling MORBID ANGEL's "Altars Of Madness" era, David Vincent. His rasp vocals are much more of a blackish Metal shriek than his Thrash Metal voice of today. His voice is at it's most demonic on "Sacred Prayers To Expiation". He is a perfect blend of early SODOM's Tom Angelripper and MORBID ANGEL's David Vincent.  He sounds like he is ready to drag your soul down to the fiery pits of hell. With anti-Christian lyrics and titles like "Slaughtering Christianity", "Quench Your Thirst With Christian Souls" and my favourite "Vomit On The Cross" all seem to be a dead ringer for early MORBID ANGEL and SODOM.

By far the most enjoyable aspect of listening to "Eternal Domination" are the guitar riffs. They are obviously influenced by the likes of SLAYER but there are also hints of SODOM, KREATOR and early SEPULTURA. The rhythms that are spewed from the guitars make it feel like the mid-eighties all over again. The guitars are played with extreme precision and at insane speeds.

Even though nothing on SUICIDAL ANGELS debut equal slatter day masterpieces like "Bloodbath', "Beggar Of Scorn" and "Apokathilosis" they are still one of the premier modern day Thrash bands in the world. If you are new to the band I might not recommend starting here but you can't go wrong with any of their releases. This is a very solid debut that will instantly suck you in and knock your head off.

The rebirth of Thrash Metal has spawned a ton of new bands on the scene. As someone that lived during the heyday of the original movement I am glad to see this style of music still at the forefront. It disappeared for a while but with solid releases like "Eternal Domination" it is destined to be here until Satan returns.
