Suffering Hour - Dwell album cover

Formed in 2013, SUFFERING HOUR out of Minnesota and Colorado, the band has released their second EP "Dwell". The band also has one full length album that they released in 2017. If you are a fan of Old School Death Metal that also offers some Black Metal, you're in luck because that is exactly what this band offers. The bands lyrical themes consist of life, death and sheer depressive content. All three members offer up vocals at different times but the bass is played by DgS, drums by IsN and guitars from YhA.

"Dwell" is eighteen minutes of very dark and depressive Blackened Death Metal. It begins with some very morose sounding guitars and a very bleak atmospheric background. As the other instruments slowly fade in, it almost gets even more depressive. Around the four minute mark it completely shifts gears into more energetic metal but still keeps the essence of doom and dread. I heard one very faint scream so far, so this has been an instrumental for the majority of the EP.

I take that back, the whole eighteen minutes is an instrumental. The EP is pretty good and it sustains a great sound throughout it's entirety. I would have really liked to hear some amazing gutterals in it, but it's amazing the way it is. I really feel that this band has some potential and I can't wait to hear more from them. I took the time to also listen to their previous album "In Passing Ascension" and it was amazing. As I stated before, if you like Old School Death Metal, you will love these guys. If their next full length album sounds like this with some great vocals I will definitely buy it.

If you get the chance I would recommend listening to "Dwell", especially if you're in the mood for atmospheric stuff. It shows off how much potential the band has. This is something I would listen to while playing a horror video game to set the mood just right. To the guys in the band, keep up the good work, keep pushing yourselves as musicians and you all will become a really good band. You already seem to know what you are doing but with a little more time you all could be even better.
