IV: The Serpent’s Coil
Sublime Eyes

From their EPK, "From the rainy shores of Stavanger, in the southwest of Norway, SUBLIME EYES has relentlessly moved towards bigger stages and a broader audience. Over the years, they have shared the stage with some of the bigger names in metal — and no matter where SUBLIME EYES perform, the crowd is always left with sore necks and an adrenaline rush like nothing they've experienced before. Now, the epic and thrashing melodeath onslaught is back with their most majestic release yet. We present to you the album that is: "IV: The Serpent's Coil."
The album has nines songs, and "Venomous Curse" is first. It storms out of the gate with energy, aggression, and darkness. The vocals are incensed, and the drums roll at lightning speed. The timing of everything is absolutely impeccable as well. "Inferno Begins" is just a little bit slower, but no less intense. In fact, this is one thing that they band has down pat. The song burn with an energy that is like the sun quickly overheating a planet with no atmosphere. "Pray for Death" is another rager. The slower pace allows each heavy note of the riff to bang inside your head. Again, the guitar work is excellent, and their timing nearly perfect. They hit every transitional passage with precision.
"Echoes" might aptly be described as a bridge from the first half of the song to the next. It's short, mysterious, and the bass work is outstanding. The sound creates a vision of something bigger and deeper out there. "Emperor's Mountain" carries the bridge forward a bit, but then it starts to burn, and they pour gasoline on it until fire is all you can see. It is a bit moody, and again, I love the bass heavy sound here. The title track is a fast mover through stormy seas and meteor-ridden skies. It sounds like nothing is settled, and the chaos brings the listener to the edge of their seat. "Cast into Hell" has that classic, melodic sound, especially in the twin guitar harmonies. It is powerful, and prophetic, warning you of your fate.
"Blades of Chaos" is the final offering, and also the longest. It offers the full plate of the Melodic Death Metal experience…a raging intensity, strong musicianship, and impeccable timing. It also has a grandiose quality to it, almost like you are witnessing the coronation of a new King of Hell. This album was INTENSE. In the annals of the genre, the band chose to take the more pure road of mostly aggressive Death Metal where the guitar harmonies provide the melody, not clean vocals nor keyboards or the like. This is an uncompromising approach to the genre, by a clearly uncompromising band, ready to tackle new territory.
