Stampede - A Sudden Impulse album cover

Here I had the honors to review a great comeback of one of the greatest bands who came up in 1981 and then disappeared. STAMPEDE, released their last album in 1983 and it seemed that 2011 was the time to get back to rock. Over the years the band's members took a part in acts as LIONSHEART, LAUTREC and WILD HORSES. After a several changes in the 80s, the band finished setting up their lineup.

In the early 80s STAMPEDE was a well known act side by side to the NWOBHM bands and shared stages along with SAXON, DEF LEPPARD, WHITESNAKE and the late Gary Moore. In 2009, after 26 years, Reuben Archer decided to reunite the band. The current lineup is set by three of the original members: Reuben Archer, Laurence Archer, Colin Bond and along with two new members to complete the group.

STAMPEDEbrings you the 70s Hard Rock sound in the highest quality a one can ask these days. With the rusty, but warm, voice of Archer and the guitars riffs that endorsed the right spirit. STAMPEDE made their early connection to the roots of 70s Hard Rock along with some blinks to Blues and Funk just like on their song "Having Fun" which reminded also AEROSMITH. In addition, I could hear some influences of BOSTON, LYNYRD SKYNYRD and BAD COMPANY.

The production is super; just hear the song "Make A Change" and you would be able to imagine in front of you the band FREE performing in Isle Of White Festival. The producer took the band to those magical moments when overdrive guitars ruled, bass was in front and a singer that sounded as if he was bred back in 1969. As soon as you start listening to the album, whether if you like Hard Rock or not, you will appreciate each song here.

"Send Me An Angel", with a glam hard rock opening riff, lead the song to a good vibe, "Homeward Bound" is one of my favorite, a very melodic song , half ballad half Hard Rock, with the right guitar solo and the right vocal line that will sweep you off your feet right from the start. It's a good feeling to welcome back STAMPEDE, they brought a lot of what the music of today lacks.
