Blending nature imagery and sounds with the harsh quietude of atmospheric black metal and heart-wrenching orchestral elements, all encompassed in three grandiose, multifaceted sonic journeys, "Natura Semper Praevalet" is an odyssey through the woods, through the seasons, and through life as a whole." "These Winds Know My Name" is the first of three songs. It enters slowly, with soft rain falling, and long held legato keyboard notes. There is also an air of darkness. Solemn clean guitar follows, and it begins to build. The distorted riff is hard but also smooth, and the vocals are tortured. Considering the song as a whole, it's a desolate affair, although the piano notes towards the end suggest this is the song about majesty and beauty.

"Wrath of the Barked Ones" is about might and wrath, but some of the tones are beautiful. Oxylus combines the purity of the forest floor with the possibilities of wonder into a composition that is as pretty as it is deadly. "Altar of Oblivion" is the final song, and its themes are desolation and death. Again, that balance between aggression and melody is held delicately. At times, it lashes out in anger, while others, it builds a foundation of beauty within the rubble. The aggression is firm and deep, and you definitely get a sense of the gravity of the song, but when clean vocals enter, it is easy not to remember them so vividly. This was a thoughtfully composed album that had layers of mystery buried within its aggressive presenting front. There is beauty, wonder, and a sense of things being larger and more expansive than what they seem.
